Knock and P0011 after Engine Build

Waited till i broke in my engine after a fresh engine build, now started logging and getting into boost starting lower 20-22. Used to run 24-26. Haven't changed anything on the car. Car upgrades are Walbro, TBE, Cobb Intake, EBC. Just did a basic 2.0 build built by a Texas Evo shop. Which shop it is, doesn't matter.

So.. getting extremely high knock counts right off the bat. Start seeing knock at 4k. Extremely high knock up to 30's consistently. At first I thought maybe false knock but the power isn't there so I let off and look at the logs each time. Engine doesn't feel that great.

Then I saw a P0011 code. I clear it and it comes back with every pull. Been doing some research and looking under the hood. Is it possible they left off the Mivec OCV. Where can I look for that if so. Is it near the Mivec Gear? EDIT: (just found a pic here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...broke-off.html)

By the way, also did a boost leak test, checks out. The knock is consistent and on free rev in neutral it knocks only a little up in the 5k range. This is besides the point and I don't like to bring it up but I don't trust this engine. They waited too long to build it then rushed it, and jipped me on a part. Only reason I bring that up is that I just don't trust they put it together with care.

Thanks for the help! Going to our garage Friday and see if we can figure it out. Just wanted to get the pro opinions of the Evo community first!

well the code went away so i started tuning. total newb at tuning. i know the software and the process of tuning the evo after about 500 miles of break in period reading, but first time to do it so its hard to get rid of this knock. taking baby steps but damn this isnt as easy as it looks especially if you start out with a **** tune thats not giving much power and its still knocking just not as bad.

Take a look at a stock timing map, may help set you on the right path if the previous tune wasn't good.

i might end up giving up and letting someone else do it but running low on funds. i have tried to retard the timing (baby steps) to get rid of knock but its not helping much pulling 3-4 degrees of timing. should i pull more? im afraid that something is out of wack because i just keep pulling timing and the knock still doesnt all go away. oh and im logging Load 1byte is that the right one?
