very lean when cold

Hey guys,

Recently I deleted my catalytic converter, so I went in and zero'd out the timing retard maps to make the car drive smoother as it was warming up. Doing this did indeed make the car much smoother but now when I drive the car cold, I am sometimes going into the 16.5-17 afr and leaner range. The car will start to sputter as it goes almost to lean to run. It only does this for the first few mins of driving and only at certain rpm's and load. How can I prevent the car from doing this? If I reload the unzeroed map, the lean problem goes away but the car is horrible to drive when cold.

thanks

Have you tried adding more fuel?

i'm not sure which map the car uses when its dead cold, plus none of my maps have any out of place lean areas in the idle-3k rpm areas. Which map does the car use when it's ice cold?

still looking for info on this. It's even worse now that it has been consistently cold out. Does anybody know what tables the edu refers to for fuel while driving during warm up?

Here is what you'll need for startup and warm up.

thanks but, my problem is more while driving. It starts up and idles fine. Its just when i'm driving down my street and out of my neighborhood. Once the temp gauge starts to move it's totally fine.

MAF Comp vs coolant temp #1 and #2 (IX) or if its an VIII its called Post Primer enrich decay #1 and #2. On the IX its easy to see because it uses a numerical value rather than a m/sec adder so you can see the changes. The VIII will need 0.20 "percent" added to everything from -32 to 50*C and then adjust from there.

The IX I grab 50* and set it to 140 then interpolate between -32 and there and its steps of 10...200, 190, 180, 170, etc.

When you read that thread, and listen to the advice above, you'll understand why I linked it.

thanks for the comments guys, my 88590015 rom does not have that table. I did some searching and found this thread

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...lant-temp.html

turns out he is having the exact same problem as me. How can I add this table to my rom?

Search for mrfred's advanced fuel control thread and follow the instructions.

Bumping an old thread but have been trying to tune out the same issue with my Evo 7 running 90550701. Car starts up perfectly and idles OK and isn't too lean while you're first driving it, but if you stop and let it idle while it's under 50*C, it goes way lean - into 17s and 18s.

I added 20% to my "Post Primer Enrich Decay #1" and "Post Primer Enrich #1" tables from -32 to 50*C as suggested by ER above and this has helped a little, but it's still quite lean at idle. It's definitely a lot richer when first driving cold as it's now into 11/12 AFRs, where it used to show 14/15s when driving cold.

Do I just keep going with the enrichment tables, or is there another way to richen up the idle when cold? The idle is perfect when warm and with AC on etc. Note I'm running full time open loop too.
