Evo 8 ECU to Evo 5 Engine

Hi Everyone, Is it ok to use a Evo 8 ECU to Evo 5 Engine? Is there any modification that need to do for this to work? or this is just plug and play and remmap?

if its an evo8 4 plug ecu its easier, you need to swap some ecu pins and wires then switch off egr etc in the rom.

some more info here

there is none now is was a common to fit evo 7or 8 ecus to the earlier models before 5/6 ecus could be mapped with ecuflash

I haven't been following up on the H8 ecu recently. Are larger fuel and timing maps available now?

Are you using the openport 2.0 cable? I was trying to figure out what I can use with my EVO 6 but it looks like the 1.3 cable isn't supported for the Evo 4/5/6?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but is tuning the Evo 5 ecu the same as tuning an evo 8 ecu? Is support as widely available for the 5 as the 8 in terms of tuning through ECUflash?

same methods and support , fuel trims work differently so just get the low trim to within +/- 5 % as it maxes out at =/- 4.8

Thank you so much, good to know! it is much easier to find an evo 8 ecu so I thought I'd give the evo 8 ecu a shot for the time being. I borrowed one that my friend had for sale and he said I could return it if it doesnt work out. Plus the fact that there is the 7202 and 7203 variance in the V ecu scares me...

Hopefully no hiccups, I will be using an extension harness(AEM or APexi?) because I am scared to cut or splice anything from my factory ecu harness

anybody got a preference on brand between those two?
