Uknown Rom image in ECUflash w/ tactrix 2.0 openport

When Ecuflash finishes loading up the data and doing its thing, I get an error message. A screen pops up and says "Uknown Rom Image". It then has 3 different options to choose to continue with. Ive been emailing tactrix support but still nothing has been successful. Ive tried deleting and reinstalling Ecuflash and installing it in different folders all the while making sure its looking for the correct folders.

Im running a windows 8 asus laptop, Im trying to read my ecu which is NOT stock, it has been tuned. Im also not 100 percent certain its not locked. Its not likely its locked but I don't know that for sure yet. After a bit more research I think my issue is I need to download some updated definitions in my metadata folder???

I have tried running Ecu unlocker, I have tried downloading different versions of ecuflash. Any help appreciated, thanks.

heres a pic I snapped of the screen I get

sorry about the pic not being rotated correctly

bump for still trying to figure this issue out. Ive searched on here for issues like this. Ive done everything other folks have seem to done to make work. Even running ecu unlocker doesn't seem to make a difference.. Ive even downloaded earlier versions of ecuflash from evoscan site and tactrix to see if that would do anything. It seems no matter what I do I still get this cant read definitions error after attempting to read my ecu when I plug it in.

I am posting on here because I have also been contacting Tactrix for support. I have been bugging them a bit so I figure if someone on here knows what may be going on, I wont have to bug them so much. If Im understanding the error correctly, it seems like its reading my ecu, then it freaks out because it cant find the definitions it read from the definitions in its program, which are all the xmls in the metadata folder
It does not seem to be an issue with my windows 8. I even changed an option setting in ecuflash where it asks for default rom to read, default was set to evo 7, but changing that doesn't matter. When its loading up my ecu on startup, it shows the correct vehicle on the bottom of ecuflash.

I didn't realize I would have such a rough time just trying to log some basic info.

You shouldn't be having any issues at all. It is the easiest thing to do in the world. But what I'm confused about is that you say you want to datalog. Why are you using ecuflash then? Evoscan is for datalogging unless you plan to use ecuflash and the openports memory card stand alone feature. From the way you are explaining it though it sounds like your car has a tephra rom and you don't have the tephra xml in the rommedata folder.

thanks everybody. Ya, it seems the issue was that my tuner used a tephra rom. I have the correct rom id so I am going to attempt it.

Ya I wanted the 2.0 openport for the datalogging using the sd card feature. Im not looking to rewrite or do any of that just yet. If I wanted to log without using my sd card on the openport 2.0, then the best option is to what, purchase the evoscan software?

Will I be having to go through all this song and dance with evoscan software? Ive never used evoscan, but since all I want to do is log I assume I couldn't do too much damage, .

Ok, I know I sound like a newb old man about computers, but I swear Im not as imcompetent as this seems.lol

What ROM are you on? Im guessing not the stock 05 since it has very limited space. Is it 96532706 by chance? If so I could probably send you the updated .xml files for Tephra V7. All you would have to do is replace whats in the current Ecuflash folder with the updated ones.

I would purchase evoscan. For what you want to do evoscan is what you want. Ecuflash has a cool memory card stand alone option but if its simplicity and what-not you are looking for Hamish has written a very handy program in evoscan that is extremely user friendly imho and will data log with your openport 2.0 as well. The only draw back I can think of is that the openport will not read or clear DTC's or activate the actuators with the evoscan program currently but Hamish is working on fixing that issue as we speak. The program will still data log and work just fine though in its current form for datalogging all engine parameters. Just spend the $20-$30 it costs for evoscan and call it a day.

Thanks, will do. I don't care to clear any dtc or perform actuations at this point. I don't really want to tune, but being able to have a remote tune done is nice option for the future. I don't mind spending the $30 on evoscan at all, so long as it does what I am looking for out of it.

It will. Good luck on your ventures. I would tune it tho if you're buying the program, haha. Too tempting for me not to do it personally Depending on your mods and your map sensor and things like that you will have to mod evoscan slightly for your needs but its way easier then you think.

Once you buy the program there is a wealth of knowledge on evoscan's website FYI but if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

Thanks to Jrainwater and all you folks as well for helping me out. As per the recommendation I just went ahead and bought the Evoscan software. I got it working now. I took it out for a spin to do some sample logs to make sure my settings are correct. Eventually I want to figure out how to set this up to begin logging on the openport sd card when the car is on, but for now using the laptop is just fine.

Once you have it working how you want in EvoScan you can use the xml defs there to generate the logcfg file necessary to log on the SD card. There has been renewed interest in this lately (which is great) so just search around when you are ready and you'll find some recent posts on this.
