Decrement in timing?

Hey ya'll, I would like to know your feedback on something, I'm trying to adjust my timing map so the car dosn't knock, right now, after 3 back to back logs (same place same distance) i have about 8 counts of knock on top which is persistent. I was wondering, when i adjust my map, is it okay if the timing gets retarded 8* in just one cell increments? what I'm trying to ask is, I know if you advance timing too agressive from one cell to another it will most likely cause knock, but will retarding cause knock as well? thank you

ps: My old perrin filter (dirty) was registering up to 18 counts on top, the good ol AEM, alot less! and runs a little cooler (must be the fancy half heatshield thing on it)

Ensure it's not a fuel issue. Looks like you are in the +90% duty cycle for your injectors in the upper rpms. What is your target AFR?

thanks cor your response. Bothmy fuel and ignition maps are currently untouched, waiting for my wideband to come along with my omni 4 bar so I can log boost and wideband. Can it be something mechanical? as lets say the pump? or just dumping fuel because MAF isn't scaled?? I'm ned to this sorry if i soujds like a noob

Honestly I wouldn't touch the map until your wideband and boost gauge come in. If you have an evo 8 a fuel pump is recommended if you plan on upping the boost. I'm running a walbro 255. They are inexpensive and an easy installation.

Thanks, I literally just ordered a walbro 255 hp pump w/install kit after reading your comment, might as well get it since I'll need it later on for e85 anyway. haha!

A knock count of 8 will cause 2.6 degrees of timing retard, so absolutely dont pull 8 degrees from your spark map. Try 3 degrees less in the affected areas.

If you are still getting the same knock count, or similar, then you probably have some phantom knock going on.
