1.3 cable with bad USB end fixable??

So my cable took a poop on me the USB end stopped working and has a short. One of the wires had come off the solder. Question is we tried to splice a new USB end and solder the wires but my computer didn't recognize the cable we did use a shielded USB end could that have been the problem? All four wire colors matched. Any ideas?

i popped the OBD2 end of mine open and re-soldered a blackberry usb cable in place of the old flimsy cable.

If you do that be sure to keep some extra slack inside the OBD2 housing and superglue it so you don't get any stress on the solder joints

Buy yourself an USB-A plug and solder the wires black-green-white-red

When you did this with the new USB wire did the wiring all match up color wise? Do all USB run the pin position the same I guess is what I'm asking. I know red is vcc +5v, green is data + white is data - and black grounds

problem solved!!!!!! opened the obd 2 side and soldered a way nicer usb cord on to it and used some nice heat shrink and hot glue to relieve all the pressure on the cables

I wonder if this is what is wrong with mine. I have been having a rough time trying to connect and its super intermittent. Did yours stop working all of the sudden or was it spotty?

guys, watch out!

i found a nice cable(i thought before soldering) which i soldered on my board and then it burnt the smd ferrite, the reason was the crappy cheap chinese moron cable which had the data + and - wires interchanged!

you better measure out the usb pins and then solder it correctly!
My cable works again now, in case anyone burns that part like me -> i used this as a replacement according to the datasheets for the ft232´s

"MI0805K400R-10"

Regards
