Speed Sensor Failure

Speed Sensor Failure
So I went to drive to work this morning and out of nowhere car starts bucking in the 2800+ rpm range. CEL comes on and give me the code for dead speed sensor. Is the speed sensor tied into any routines on the ECU that would cause the bucking? IT felt almost like a very hard misfire. I ordered a new sensor, but i am hoping this is tied to both issues.
