Italy
You do have some serious track cars here but they can't run em on the street. The closes 1/4mile (400 meter) track i know of is about 3-4hrs away but its expensive, the faster ur car is the more you have to pay to run it. If i remember right it was like 240 euro for anything faster than 12's :O.

Italy isn't what I thought it'd be!

Haha, yea i was expecting some sick **** here too. I went to a car show last weekend, garabage! I'm just attending the races for now on. PM me when ya'll wanna cruise or something.
I've got a good friend of mine that's a tuner/owner of JMS Racing in SA, TX that's expressed interest in coming out here to tune cars. He road tuned my stock turbo 9 and it made 402whp (bolt ons, E-85, 27psi) on their shops DynoJet. That car was a stock turbo beast!! If anybody is interested let me know. He'll also tune Mustangs, Vettes, 350/370Z, G35/37, Honda's, SRT's, Mazdaspeed 3's, etc, so if you know of coworkers or friends who need to be tuned this is a potential opportunity to get it done.
Hello! I am heading to Livorno, Italy this summer for 3 yrs. I jumped on here to get advice from experienced personnel in Italy. I have a modded '04 Evo 8 GSR. After reading this thread, I am nervous about considering bringing my car there. Sounds like the odds are against the car returning to the US in good condition, or even at all!! Here are few questions I have:
What is the octane level there?
What are their rules/inspections for cars and modded cars?
Do you recommend leaving the Evo in the US and buying a car there upon arrival?
I would really appreciate insight!! Thank alot. Please either post here or PM me. Thanks!!

They have 100ron here (bluesuper), which is 95 octane so you'll be fine. As far as mods go, us Americans don't have to follow the same modding laws as the Italians.
We can go as far as we want pretty much, i haven't even gotten a noise pollution ticket here and i'll been living here since 2008. The cops pretty much see our cars, see we're Americans and leave us alone.
And as far as bringing your car here, if your bank allows it and you can afford the insurance, i say bring it. I don't regret bringing mine.

Thanks for the info!! How is your evo holding up with traffic and roads? Is it beat up or been hit? I am moving to Livorno. I plan to bring my bike too.
Anyone else have any input??

Hey let me add my .02
I bought my 2012 evo and found out i was comming here about a month later... i was totatly on the fence with the whole situation. USAA wanted almost 1k$ a month for insurance. I had to switch to Geico here its 386$ a month (stings everytime i pay it)and i still feel like if i get in an accident i wont have the same peace of mind as being with USAA.
The roads here are not crap but they are nothing compared to the states, they are slick, small and there can be loose gravel on them at times, so someone is bound to spray your front end/windshield (its happend to me already)
I have already caused minor damage to my sideskirt because i was blocked into a square and the vendor would not move his truck, i had to squeeze bewteen him and a wall and i tapped it, sucks, but i had no way of getting out of my garage ( i live in Sacile)
People will stare, want to talk to you and generally make you feel like you dont want to leave your car alone in a parking lot (did i mention the parking spaces are tiny)
Now also look if you want to travel to different countries, toll roads are expensive and each country has its own rules, some countrys are in the toilet in terms of econmey and a 2012 evo here is worth around 80k$ (55000 euro), you bet i would not want to drive my car in some of these places just because my friends want to go "rally the mountian in slovenia"
Lastly, the weather. Its winter right now, always dark and raining, as i type this, it is the first day i have seen the sun, your car will always be dirty and it gets pretty annoying. In the summertime there can be flash hail storms when its around 85 degrees out, i was in one before my car got here, so i was lucky, but i have seen some cars absolutley trashed.
In the end, im on the fence if i made the right decision, i have had tons of fun in my car going to the mountians and not having to worry about sliding off the road, but at the same time i am really protective of my car and italians in general will annoy you to no end with some of their antics (following you super close, parking right up on you ETC)
You can kind of also tell the new peoples vehicals on base, out of the newest 2, a dodge rumblebee and a red camaro, the rumble bee has his rear bumber smashed into the tailgate, and the red camaro is missing the left front area of the car..... i guess they didnt have AWD

My Evo's held up fine, I got into an accident the first year i was here where an Italian ran a stop sign, minimal damage thank God. Other than that it's been good to me.
My cars in great condition, paints good, some chips on the hood from gravel but they're small. And this was from DDing it for 4 years here, currently its my weekend warrior.
I agree with 1FSTX when it comes to being my car to certain countries (I travel alot, went to Serbia on New Years) I would never bring my car deep into Eastern Europe but my Evo has been to Slovenia and Croatia a million and one times (I partied every weekend in these countries and my girlfriend's from Slovenia, so i travel there alot) and I've NEVER had ANY issues with it possibly being stolen in these places.
People look, stare and compliment the car but nothing else. Yes, they're expensive cars here but not that expensive, I've met many europeans here with Evo's also.
My insurance here is $270 a month with Geico but I'm 27.
Personally, I dont regret bringing her here, i'm loving every min of it but to each its own.
