New Clutch

i just got a new act clutch and got it installed. it makes a squealing noise when i start from a dead stop. the guy that installed it said it would make that sound until it got worn in. has anyone else dealt with this or know anyone who has? i want to make sure this guy didnt mess up the install and is trying to get over on me. any input would help.
thanks

Its normal. My last Evo did it once the clutch got broke in, and my new Evo does it from the get go. What clutch did you go with and who installed it?

thats the one i got and i got it installed at the mitsubishi dealership in amberg. they seem to have done pretty good work and they were pretty cheap. alot cheaper than dealers in the states would have charged. i called act and talked to a tech rep and he said that the rattle and squeak would stop once the clutch got worn in. he said if i wanted to get it to stop sooner, i could go to a parking lot and ride the clutch real hard for a bit and it would stop sooner. im just gonna let it go.
later on

seems like a pretty good deal, but I would never ride a clutch for no reason. Did you get a new flywheel or did you get the old one resurfaced?

black, how much did they charge for install? You can PM me the price. Thinking about where to go for an install in case I needed one.

to be 100% honest man if I could do it all over again I would do it myself. After watching the rally shop do mine theres only 2 really hard parts. 1- popping the throttle release bearing off the clutch, 2- actually dropping the tranny. Once those two are done if you have any common knowledge of cars/mechanics it ain't that hard. The other key is patiences. But there ain't nothing like watching someone else do hard work.

I wish I would've kept my alignment tool, but I gave it to a local shop.
Did you order a new flywheel too? A little bit of advise, use the EvoMoto write up http://evomoto.com/tech_info.php?tec...e73e022931dc2a
Also the EvoM write is pretty good too.

It is very detailed and helped me a lot on my Evo VI. I know I don't need to remind you but a second pair of hands helps a lot. Also try to find a slide hammer. My local auto skills center didn't have one and I had to make one myself(see pic)

My cusco/exedy twin-plate ceramometallic did the same, too... it went away with normal everyday use after a few weeks. Did yours end up going away?

I had the Mitsu dealer in ebensfeld swap mine... he's the biggest evo dealer in europe all the way down to Greece. Charged me 800 euros for clutch install, 3speed scatter shield install, ralliart LSD install, and throwout bearing. He has an evo 6 that he rallies, and he's been rallying for over 15 years now. He said it took him 10 hours for everything but he only charged me for 8.

I just replaced mine with an exedy stage 1 organic clutch recently and its making the same noise, at first I tried to diagnosis the problem, but everything was assembled properly and decided it was just the break in period, also doing your install is gonna take a lot of patience and bloody knuckles with constant swearing, thats just from my point of view
