Evo 9 + CBRD BBK Full turbo upgrade on 91oct and E85
We had a local upgrade to the new CBRD BBK full turbo upgrade. This is a stock frame turbo with upgraded insides, much like a FPgreen.
We tuned it yesterday on 91 and then on E85.
The results impressed us.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Three pulls back to back on final 91 octane tune:
369whp / 319wtq
367whp / 320wtq
367whp / 318wtq
This is more than any stock frame turbo upgrade of this league has ever done on our dyno on 91. Average numbers for the "other" stock frame turbo upgrade is around 330-340whp.
Here are the boost plots for the three pulls above:
Average 24.7 psi
Here is the BBK on 91 octane vs the BBK on E85:
427whp / 376wtq
+60whp / +58wtq (over 91)
91 boost vs E85 boost:
30psi peak on E85, drops to about 27psi at 7600. This is more than I've seen the other stock frame turbo upgrade ever hold.
And now for the BBK vs the stock turbo:
+42whp / +20wtq peak
Even more gains up top
Best part is it's with less boost until past 6500 where the BBK can sustain more boost without breaking a sweat. Pretty close to the same spool up.
Great gains. Keep in mind this particular Evo 9 has been very strong, even on the stock turbo. 325/300 on our dyno, on 91 octane, is VERY strong on the stock turbo. Average numbers for a Evo 9 with the same type of mods and stock turbo are usually around 305-315whp.
Here is the stock turbo airflow Vs. the BBK airflow logged:
Very impressed with this turbo so far.
Stats on this Evo:
2006 Evo 9 GSR
2.75" Tanabe Downpipe
3" Agency Power catback
RRE rally cat (resonated test pipe)
Titek V2 tubular 02 housing
Ported stock exhaust manifold
CBRD BBK Full turbo upgrade (with porting option)
GST open cone air filter
Perrin FMIC
AMS LICP
Cosworth M2 mivec cams
FIC "BlueMax" 1250cc injectors
Denso IKH24 spark plugs (1 heat range colder)
Walboro fuel pump (single)
GM 3 port boost solenoid using ECU-controlled boost
GST Custom flash using Tephra v5.10 for map switching with stock ECU (91 to E85 and back)
UPDATE:
Had the owner back in today for some "touchup" on the tune after he went through a couple tanks of E85 to make sure all was good.
Got a little more out of it, very impressed with this turbo, this is great power on our dyno with a stock variant turbo.
+15whp / +34wtq peak gains today, over the tune with E85 before.
Here is an overlay of 3rd gear and 4th gear. Of course it spooled even faster in 4th gear, little more torque and a tad more horsepower.
Solid is 4th, dotted is 3rd.
It is now making +92 wtq over straight 91 octane. Great E85 turbo!

The injectors where at 79% IDC on E85 and 55% IDC on 91 oct, logged via evoscan
The turbo is using a stock Evo 9 Actuator too. Would be curious to see what it would hold with a Forge.

However, I can tell you the strongest FPgreen equipped Evo on 91 octane ever on our dyno put down 353whp / 314wtq. (approx same mods as this evo above)
The average FPgreen horsepower on 91 oct with approx same mods is around 330-340whp
We've tuned two FPreds on 91 octane so far to date and they made 369whp / 330wtq (Evo 9 with wilson intake manifold) and 356whp / 314wtq (Evo 8)
