FP Black vs FP RED LOW BOOST PUMP GAS (Initial Findings)

Hello again everyone, some time ago I posted a thread doing a direct comparison on the FP Red vs the Green. At that time a lot of persons said I help them make up their minds about switching to the red. Well I have upgraded from a FP Red and purchased a FP Black.
So here we go again.
First let me start by saying that this is the first of a 2 part posts. This post will compare both turbos on 18 PSI. I was unable to turn up the black anymore as we were having some ignition and/or voltage problems. So rather that waiting until all was sorted out I decided to provide my INITIAL FINDINGS.

FP RED
Car - Evo 4
Engine - Stock 2L
ECU - Stock Evo 8
Gas - 90 Oct (really 88 oct. when tested)
Boost - 18 Psi
Tuner - HS Engineering (876)-383-2005
Water Injection - Single 650 ml Jet
Graph - Red Line
Power -330
Torque - 262

FP BLACK
Car - Evo 4
Engine - Wiseco Pistons and Eagle Rods
ECU - Stock Evo 8
Gas - 90 Oct (really 88 oct. when tested)
Boost - 18 Psi
Tuner - HS Engineering (876)-383-2005
Water Injection - Double Jets - 650 ml and 175ml
Graph - Black Line
Power - 361
Torque - 318

Those are the initial results that I got. With regards to the Black Tune, it was VERY conservative. We basically adjusted fuel and did very little with timing. We should be able to add another 4 – 5 degrees. But since we just built the engine we wanted to drive around on this boost for a while before turning on the pressure. The car feels very strong for this boost. Regarding the lag……. I felt no real difference in the spool up and the black came in a hell of allot harder. It even spin the tires slightly at this boost. All I can say is that I am glad I bought the black. More power with great spool… who said u cant have your cake and eat it. FP YOU HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!!!

I am sorry I could not do a hi boost comparison as yet. The car is now with HS Engineering sorting out some minor problems, as soon as we do another tune I will do another post. I hope you all found this somewhat helpfull

I actually think the extra methanol, rods and pistons if added to the FP Red would make the same numbers on this boost. 31 more hp, and 56 ft lbs. more, not all that significant when looking at the extra mods. Now at higher boost the black will really shine, but kind of meh.. at 18 psi. Again the black will show higher gains once the wick is turned up, as the Black as already made a couple of really impressive cars lately. Please update when the boost gets up in the 30-35 psi range......

This test is not really that much of a comparison.

For one 18 psi aint nothing, granted ur 88 oct but it looks like you have meth injection.

But one is a stock motor and the other has some forged internals which can affect everything.

Also post graphs not doc files...

its worse than that. at 18psi the red likely beats the black in a back to back. for sure torque would be higher with red. this comparo is fail.

The car is being prepared on a very close time line and we have been faced with various challenges. So 94AWDcoupe, I am very sorry if we could not do an ideal test to suit your liking. It is what it is. The primary reason for building the car was not to provide a post. The post was done just to show MY experiences based on MY parameters and also to give a progress update on this project. It was also done in response to a question that was ask of me "if it make sense to purchase the black and run low boost" . I am sure I stated that this was done on low boost and also stated the reasons why.

As it relates to the pistons and rods and meth, I fully agree that this will significantly affect the outcome, however I believe that the pistons and rods will factor in mostly when we go up to 30 - 35 psi (which we may do over the next 2 weeks, and as I said I will post those results also), regarding the meth, he have HORRIBLE gas here in Jamaica, and recently it has gotten worse and inconsistent, so we decided to add an additional jet .

Its not about an ideal test to 94AWDcoupe's liking...Your post is titled FPBlack vs FPred. It should be renamed FPred/Stock motor vs FPBlack/Built motor. If you are doing a build thread then thats different but to do a comparision thread is hard enough just with environment changes and gas differences (you said you guys are getting inconsistant gas).

Thats the only reason why people are saying that its not a fair comparision........I know I don't consider it a comparision truely when you change so much.
