Evo 8 PTE 5857 @ 31 psi on E85
[quote=Force-Fed Performance;9042716]just a fyi but i would stay away from the journal bearing billet turbos. they are known to fail. Us and about 6-7 other friends we have that own/run shops were talking about it recently and all of us have been seeing them fail.
That is good to know. The 68hta is a journal bearing billet turbo also so I guess it might be best if I go the cheaper route of a evo 3 16g if they are failing a lot. I think putting a 1400 dollar turbo on my street car is out of my price range for now although I would like to. There is an article though on the Forced Performance website about how crappy all the modern oils have become causing a lot of the newer journal bearing turbos to fail. There fix it says is to use only a dedicated race oil.

i have this turbo on a fully built. 2.4 stroker motor....lol....its fun and made 440/400 with bad compression at 25psi on 93 pump.....rebuilding the bottom end now and will be making it FF with 3" intercooler piping and some other fun bits....shooting for 500+ on 93 pump under 30psi
and the dyno was a MD
btw my comp numbers were
#1- 180
#2- 82
#3- 98
#4- 142

this car was retuned by Aaron here https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...e5857-e85.html and made massive hp/tq.
then he switched to a 6266 and i retuned it. he was very happy with Aaron's tune.
on the 6266 the car trapped 111mph in the 1/8 on low boost once we were done. i do not know what he did afterwords with the car, but i know he started tuning it himself now since i taught him stuff as i was tuning it and set it up so the tune was user friendly. i wouldn't be surprised if it went 9's already. he doesn't really share on forum much.

but from what i can see the 5857 is a nice turbo. it packs a lot of punch.
was your engine because of rings or something? since you had to rebuild the bottom end. i would of figured HG or valve seals or something.
his car is insane, the engine is so nice. last i saw him, i do believe it was making at least 611awhp. not sure about torque numbers. he was rebuilding the clutch at that point, going from a twin to a triple plate.
its a 9 second car no doubt with driver and high boost + non conservative tuning.
with the smaller pte i believe it trapped 106 in 1/8.
that vids of it on my tune with the 6266 on a semi conservative tune.
The best I found going thru old emails was a 109 spinning violently but he was thinking it still was in the 6.30 range (no timeslips when he was at the track). He had to shift 4th to make it through the 1/8th at that point which was obviously killing the E.T./MPH
