This post was the basis for my test so I do believe that gains can be had by venting to atmosphere. My results may or may not be due to an efficient setup, but perhaps I have a restriction further downstream (aftermarket CAT) that must first be resolved before a difference can be seen.

It took me a minute to realize that this wasn't a back to back test on the same car. Switch O2 housings and I'd bet money the car that made more power on this test will make more power again.

LOL, you really think there would be a swing of over 80whp going to a more restrictive part?

We all know the o2 dump makes more power its been proven on more than just this car, this just really shows the more power you make the bigger the gain.

So we just put the JMFabrications O2 dump on Jason's car and went back to the dyno. I could tell on the street that it definitely felt snappier (as well as louder...but thats what I like) than before even at 24.5psi by the Tru-boost.

This is what it did-



WOW, global 30whp/30 ft lbs for $320.00? Not bad at all.

Up top at 28.5psi where it had made 405whp before it now makes 421/377-

I wish I had a before and after log of my car. It makes such a difference with the dumped o2.

Makes me wonder how a 2.5" o2 w/dump would compare to a 3" recirculating o2.

Very nice performance improvements btw.

I would be more interested in a o2 dump if they didn't sound like *** when WOT.

Any chance we could get the SAE corrected charts or run conditions?

I'm not familiar with Jason's car. What turbo is this on and what O2 housing did the car use to have along with other major mods?

I hate the sound of an external dump, but I'd love another 30 WHP. I might buy another turbine housing and get to work putting a Tial MVS on it with a new O2 housing.

It went from Ebay to this, stock turbo. The write up is under GTIsRule Road race IX.

I will get the SAE stuff after a bit.

Here are the corrected numbers, but since cars dont drive at corrected numbers they are about fracking useless. Comparison from day to day on the car at identical conditions is all that really matters.

Meh, not to start a numbers debate, but IMO, once you start bumping up against the choke flow limit of a turbo, corrected numbers are very relevant. I can show you chart after chart of local stock turbo cars ranging from 330 to 380 WHP that are maxing out the turbo and when you temperature correct them, they all come up within 5-10 HP of 360...

Same dyno, same car, with just a parts change? IMO corrected numbers are the only way to compare changes on that car and not using corrected numbers can lead you astray.


There is no question though, this dump worked on that car.

R/T, as for weight, I could probably chop a pound or so out of the turbine housing and O2 housing flange by welding the wastegate flange on to the turbine housing... But why go to all that work for a stock frame turbo that only has FP options for future replacement when all kinds of new stuff seems to be on it's way???

+1. Good results, but im fine with losing power. I literally would get a headache everytime I drove the car and was super paranoid about cops. Unless the sound is any different now with the fp black turbo, i'll stick to the recirculating.
