do I need a tuning to get a turbo back exhaust?????

hello guys a buddy of mine said he found a perfect and cheap exhuast for me. It is a turbo back full exhuast and he said it is greddy!! he told me he can get it for me for $350 so i was wondering if you guys think this is a good buy? i dont know much about turbo backs but i heard one needs a tuning when installing? Do i absolutly have to get a tuning right away??

Also can anyone lmk if this can be a welded greddy because its not the same color but he said it is legit.

Idk also how to tell if its fully greddy=(

That looks like a megan exhaust.

They retail for 330 for the catback, and for 350 with the test pipe which is what you have the o2 sensor hanging out of.

That one pictured also includes a downpipe which is a decent buy for 350.

To answer your question, no. You do not have to get it tuned right away. Evos run quite rich from the factory.

A tune wouldn't hurt, but you don't need it.

well whatever the exhaust is, its a turbo back.
a catback is well an exhaust that is AFTER the cat, hence the name. (in your pic, there is no cat, but a resonated test pipe in its place)
this one is not a true, true turbo back, but it is as close to one as u can get without a custom o2 housing implemented into the downpipe (map has one). technicality here.

but it doesnt matter if the car runs rich or not, this TBE doesnt have a cat and you will fail emissions before u even get one.
visual= fail, sniffer= fail, cel because no cat = fail
no you dont need a tune. unless u are absolutely looking for ever pony out of the car and this is absolutely the only mod then go ahead. otherwise i feel like its a waste of money.

so it actually looks more like a megan tbe, or a greddy cbe and pieced together dp/testpipe
did a bit of looking around. here is a greddy ti-c TBE. pics courtesy of jscspeed

Having a downpipe with the cat-back makes it a turbo-back. Running a turboback without a tune isn't critical. I spend the money on a tune after cams, fuel pump, injectors, etc.

With a turbo back exhaust and no tune you may hit boost/fuel cut. (Not a tuner but remembers what I experienced with my 1st evo and a tbe and no tune)

Oh the one I have up does not have catback?? I was told it has one because I asked him about passing smog and my buddy said "how not it has a catback" hmmmm so how does a catback look on the turboback? Sorry if I'm asking to much questions I just don't wana get something that won't even let me pass smog

What you mean by a boost cut or fuel cut? In a bad way?

Not in a bad way but will limit your power.

I think it's boost cut as the stock boost solenoid will see too much boost from a free'r flowing exhaust and tell the ecu to do something and will limit you.

I would hit it in 3rd or 4th gear pulls in my old evo.

Tune isn't needed to dd it.

Tune is needed to take full advantage of the upgraded exhaust.

Oh ok I see it. Yeah I was just wondering if it was absolutely needed at the moment. I'll be thinking of getting a tune in the future later on. But seems like this one doesn't have a catback?:0

Like others have said, you can run un-tuned. You may hit boost/fuel cut. If you have a boost controller, you can turn the boost down to avoid this.

But you will not see the full potential of the TBE until you get it tuned. A TBE/fuel pump/boost controller and a tune is one of the best and most common first round of mods for a EVO.

if i were you id get an ebay 3" turbo back and get a magnaflow muffler welded in place of the one that comes with it. that should run you around 200-250 installed. also you can spend $200 on a tune from tscompusa and get some more hp while your at it.
