one of a kind evo 9 RS setup - 93oct SD
actually I do think the exhaust manifold and F1 are hurting torque from 3000-4000. what I though was impressive was reaching over 425whp on 93 with stock turbo. that is hard to do in florida.
if I were looking to make 425whp I would choose my parts differently. here is my hta green at 21psi on 2.3 liter. note how late pull was started and how fast it builds torque. and the tune is no where near done. I have 5 degrees pulled from spool area cause the throttle response was actually too jumpy on the street. made it hard to drive smoothly.

always more torque and nasty ramp up. You have a fun set up.would yo give up a little bit of that torque for a red? it will still produce monster torque
my best advice to anyone is to use the smallest turbo to reach your HP goals. that always results in the best power curve. using my own advice I might be happier with a BBK full or EF2. This is my daily driver and I want to get years of use from the turbo. its two years old now. I dont care to over spin turbos to set short lived records. dont plan on running it over 27psi. that should net around 475 whp. car is already a blast at 21psi.
ill be swapping a map rev 3 / 65mm tb for a f1i + 70mm full blown tb.
then ill do a comparison against the stock exhaust manifold ported vs toxicfab.
then invidia o2 vs map o2 dump
ill have some good comparisons for sure and hopefully it helps out the community more.
the only bad thing about the f1i comparison vs the map rev 3 is that ill be using a custom ets upper pipe and my tial q bov vs the muse upper and forge rs bov.. and also it will be speed density vs maf.. but i have an velocity stack that i can use the fp non recirc intake tube with perrin filter so it shouldn't alter the test to much.

Nice! Glad to see you finally got yourself a good manifold to use!! Yeah, I know it's DEI Gold foil, I was wondering what he made the "box" out of? Aluminum or SST?
let me ask him and get back to you.. ya im excited man to put it on.. its a work of art and its ceramic coated!
we had knock during the tune sure, but once i finalized everything there is no knock anywhere.. there's around or over 10deg uptop. bit more on the 29psi tune though. with ecu boost we can push it hard in 3rd gear then drop boost in 4th so you have clean 4th pulls also.. thats one major plus with ecu boost.. typically 4th induces knock when you tune 3rd aggressive.. but with the luxury to alter boost per gear we can knock it down in 4th.. car pulls clean 1-2-3-4, etc no knock.
if any maybe 1 count, but timing isn't effected, aka just non detonation noise. load doesnt vary enough from 3rd to 4th to taper timing left to right to control ignition advance, therefore boost per gear is super super nice.

That's not much at all. I guess the turbo is blowing some pretty hot air up there at that psi. Surprising it put down what it did on that timing. I use 9055 v7 with a Grimmspeed 3 port for ECU boost. Wouldn't have it any other way, the level of control is excellent. I also run lower boost in 4-6th to reduce knock and the the strain on the weaker 6spd box. Ok, glad you are still getting the occasional 1 count, same with me. I have tried to reduce it to none and it just cant happen. I've thought about having gear based timing maps but that would add unnecessary complexity for minimal gains, and there'd have to be some overlap between them as with gear based boost (change the WGDC in 4th and you also slightly affect 3rd etc).

in regards to timing, the evo 9 is different then the evo 8. ill let you find the rest of that info yourself.
and older jdm evo's are even more different (like dsm heads).as long as your one count isn't pulling timing then its nothing to worry about, but if its pulling timing then you should certainly address it.. if you need some help just pm me ill give you some tips.
ya, when you really maximize boost in 3rd with stock turbo its gonna always usually run more in 4th from more loading up downlow, and with ecu boost you can lower it out.
gear based timing maps would be awesome for just mbc.. and honestly it would not be hard to do.. just set it to globally pull a deg or two in 4th gear.. similar to the iat timing trim table or another low oct map gear based 3d map. easier said then done i guess.
also keep in mind aftermarket cams effect base timing on a vehicle.. you could have kelford 272 cams and 22degrees in your timing map, but that 22degrees may only be really actually 18degrees. the only way to really know what your base timing is after you add cams and so forth is to test it with proper equipment if you dont degree the cams. 90% of people don't degree their cams.
B.J., its Aluminum.
