Ams 2.3 stroker, knocking when trying to put more timing?

Not sure if this is the right place but I just did my break in and I have a ams 2.3 stroker GSC s2 cams hks cam gears etc, fully built with an evo 9 turbo. Running on 93oct. Everytime they try to put more timing they get a knock. They are saying I need a meth kit.... Anything you guys suggest? Or do I actually need 1? Is anyone running somethjng similar to my setup? i know everyone is different but anything would help. I do not want to put race gas because this is my daily.

Thanks!

It's not common to reach MBT with "pump" gas.
If you're reaching knock levels, then you've hit the maximum ignition timing it's going to take.
Meth is a band aid, if you're serious about more power then switch to E85 where you can usually tune to MBT.

We won't be able to make any suggestions unless you upload a log so we can see what's going on. Maybe post a screenshot of your ignition tables as well.

I will try to do it soon, it only gets a knock "sometimes" in 4th gear we can not put the timing higher then 10 or it will do it. Idk mabe my knock sensor is bad? Or something is banging the engine to make it think its knocking? I will try and get a map up. I also cannot do race gas because this is my daily, and there is only 1 gas station that sells it by me and it is an hour away lol

sounds like to me you need to lower the boost pressure. its knocking more in 4th then 3rd because the boost is increasing more in 4th.

lower the boost down to a safe area and go from there. you dont need a meth kit to make it not knock. you just need to tune the car not to knock by lowering boost pressure.

however if you want more power, thats another story. then you will need to increase the octane rating of the fuel so it has more detonation resistance and the only way to do that is go with a higher octane rating fuel, or add meth to cool the intake charge and assist in the fuels ability to resist detonation.

Thanks! Will check it out. I will probably end up going with a meth kit to make more power. But for now lowered the boost and no more knock!! Thanks!

Be careful. Meth is dangerous for you and your car. No seriously I am not a fan of using a meth kit and I am sure others are fans of it. Just remember you will be using quite a bit of meth so the costs add up quickly. I would personally keep it on pump gas or go with a larger turbo.

Depending on your driving habits you can burn enough meth in 1 year plus the cost of purchasing the meth kit to of purchased a good used bbk or green.

Where in Florida are you, we've got Thorntons stations popping up everywhere with E85 at the pump!

What kind of boost were you trying to run?

Do you have E85 near you? Also what's the static compression of that engine and like ExViTermini said, what kind of boost are you running?

Nope, no E85. Closest one is about an hour away and we were only able to run 18psi without the knock I wanted to run 23-24 lbs but it wouldn't let us.

Hmm, sounds like your running in excess of 10.1 compression. You need to consult a tuner to lower your timing events so you can run the boost you want or simply just turn it down.

You should pm Tomcompusa about a remote tune to take care of this. Or bring the car to Tampa.
