2.3L FP Red E85

Finally finished up my build and got it on the rollers yesterday. Goal was to build a stock appearing, well rounded car that could compete in all aspects of racing. I think I got that accomplished.

2003 Evo 8
Stock MAF/ECU
E80

2.3L
BR cylinder head
GSC S2
JB 64mm unported FP Red
HKS RS Intake
Hallman MBC
Forge DV
BR downpipe
QTP E-cutout
Ported IM
BR double pumper
FIC 1050cc
65mm TB
Ported exhaust manifold
BR 02 housing
BR FMIC
BR UICP, AMS LICP

77F, 65% humidity

Huge thanks to Buschur Racing and Boostin Performance. Two top tier shops in my book!

Very nice MD power. With an FP Red, 2.3, ported head and mani, and all the other mods did you expect faster spool or is that standard? I assumed full torque before or at 4000 with a Red and 2.3

You know I was honestly looking at that and compared graphs from when I was on the 2.0 and milder cams (HKS 272) but I think it has to do with my Red being unported journal bearing and having a more mid range cam. I've lost about 400rpm compared to 2.0 with HKS 272s

Just a question, why haven't you converted to speed density? That should yield even more power, I'm sure you know.

Well it's on a long list of things I would like to do, along with bigger intercooler, better lower piping, better BOV, and Grimmspeed.

The only thing holding me back from doing it is that I feel like a MAF on the car makes it look so docile.

I mean if I looked at the engine bay I would be like oh a stock 2.0 and a fp red, but boom beefy 2.3 torque monster!

I've even removed the tack welded FP Red tag and grinded it smooth so it looks like a factory Evo 9 turbo.

Does anyone know of any non-mivec w/ MAF dyno graphs similar to my setup? Can't seem to spot any in this forum.

Literally a mountain of torque haha

There's not a terribly long list of increased displacement motors with a red. The 2.3/2.4 paired with a black became pretty popular so there should be lots of those graphs around. Tom/tscompusa's personal car used to be 2.3 black and he did a bunch of documenting with vd graphs. In fact, I would just search threads started by him in the dyno results section. He has a pretty diverse resume in terms of combos he's tuned.

Your graph looks about on par with what I'd expect. Its mustang so peak numbers are negligible. 300 lb ft by 4k looks ok. Big fat tq spike in the mid range looks right. Chokes a little up top, that looks right too. Dyno only tells part of the story. I bet it takes right off when u flog it

If he removes the MAF and does speed density and adds a 3 port it will look like a completely different car.

Also id check for any kind of exhaust or boost leaks. exhaust leak pre turbo / before can make the spool laggy like that.

Also wanted to comment on the engine bay. I would get those shiny pipes and the manifold heat shield coated black. It'll clean it up and lend to the stock look

yea i was about to say the same thing. I have a 2.4 with a 6265 and mine spools faster than this.

I'll check it out, although a boost leak test was performed before tuning. Thanks for taking a look.

An exhaust cutout mated to the stock exhaust wouldn't have anything to do with it, would it?
