I would still save for a trans or at least the parts to rebuild it with a better final drive to aid in your quarter mile goals. What RPM were you at on your 10.4 run. Were you in 4rth gear? Beauftiful car by the way, love the build and modifications.

yeah ive spoke with Dan Buschur and I definitely have that in the plans. Currently we have the limiter set at 8600 or so i believe. And yes at 138 in 4th I was tapping the limiter at the end of the 1/4 mile. My tuner thinks we can rev it out to 9k+ with the new motor and will at least hold me until I can get a 4.11 final drive.

And thank you! I appreciate the kind words!

The trans isn't the concern, it's the tcase. And changing fluid every pass won't keep the front diff housing from grenading in an instant on a botched launched.

yeah I’m not saying it’s not going to happen. just saying taking care of your stuff does go a long way. And so far I have been fortunate.

Guys I have a thought that’s been in the back of my head while I wait for the shop to get to my car... my car currently is almost tapping the limiter at 138mph in the 1/4 mile. Is it going to be possible to stay in 4th with the new power? I’m guessing I’ll be trapping closer to 144-145 and want to avoid shifting into 5th.

Im wondering if I want to go with a 4.11 final drive or if that’s not “necessary” to go 9s.

I can't comment on what the newfound power will yield for trap speeds but its safe to say you'll have the potential to pick up some speed. That being said we need more info here in regards to tire size and what you plan to set your limiter to. Look online for MPH calculators. Enter in the necessary info such as tire diameter FD 4th gear ratio and RPM and it'll spit out your MPH.

But to spell out the obvious, if you want to stay in 4th through the traps and say you're on the limiter currently, you have a few options. Turn the power down (booo!) raise the limiter (yay!) taller tire, or taller FD. Personally I would rev it out as high as possible as long as its still safe as everything else will have a negative impact on how hard your car accelerates.

What was your limiter at? I would just rev it out for that second or two in order to pass the traps.

Get some 26x8.5x17 M&H Slick or 245/45/17 Drag Radial which is equivalent to 255/45/17 which is some tall tyre
That will buy you some allowance in term of RPM for passing through trap
There is also M Factory 4.3 Final Drive which is in between 4.111 and 4.583 Final Drive

Whoops. Should have clarified. I am using a 26” Hoosier qtp tire. And currently limiter is set around 8750 I believe. I think y’all are right. If we rev it out a little more I may be able to get by with the added mph.

I would-

Send the trans out and have Evo8 3rd and 4th gears put in it. This will help a lot. Also, with the built motor, if it's built right, an 88mm or 94mm crank can rev to 9500.. You may run into power taper up there without an upgraded intake manifold, and depending on your cams and head work.

Since you have 272's, I would would at least switch to GSC S3's or Kelford 280's with appropriate valve springs. Could also consider getting the head ported. An intake manifold like the Magnus V5 would be a good idea. Or at least get the stock ported and a 65mm throttle body from CBRE.

There is a 4th gear that Dan Buschur sells that lets you trap a higher speed in 4th without changing your final drive. I ran a 10.49 at 143.57 at the Shootout while hitting the rev limiter quite a bit before the end of the 1/4 mile. The struggle is real!

Kasey sent me this today. Not sure why, but he said the gsc heavy duty seals I had installed a while back were hitting the retainer so messed those up. That may explain the blue smoke I’ve been seeing occasionally.

Just waiting on head to get back. He said he hopes to have it on the dyno next week.

What valve springs and retainer are you using that's hitting the GSC valve stems?
