Evo IX MR: HTA71/S1/air filter/2.75" O2/LICP
#32
This is my second one. I had one... loved it... sold it and installed a Green... then went back to this. LOL. My car drives exactly how I've always wanted with these turbos. I'm not one of those high-horsepower/drag racing guys, though.
What I noticed back to back to back: HTA71 literally had me grinning as soon as I put it on the car. I went with an HTZ Green because I wanted less heat/stress at the race track. I made about 60whp more (ran out of fuel or would have been more) so lap times were better, but the car was less "punchy" anywhere else (street, autox, etc). The car was overall less fun for me but theoretically better for the track. It blew up within a couple thousand miles, though, so....
After a brief stint with the OEM turbo (no complaints), I'm back to the 71. I like how it immediately puts me back in my seat and keeps me there until I let off
IMO: If you like how the Evo drives stock, an HTA71 is the perfect turbo. You loose very little spool time, transient response is great, and you make plenty of power up top. The car remains as spunky as it came from Mitsu but is a lot quicker. I think it's the largest turbo/most power you can make before you start sacrificing things.
I do occasional local AutoX (small site/courses) and it really is a lot of fun. It drives like stock (even better on e85) but with all that extra power.

Damn, that's badass. Didnt think 450 on e85 was possible with those, especially on a 255! Bet you would get a more out of them with a different pump, too

I'm almost tapped out on duty cycle, so that's the limiting factor. The pump should be good for damned near 500whp. If I could find the injectors I want, I may be able to get more from the turbo. But meh... Not worth the trouble of spending ,swapping ,and re-tuning.
