4g63T evo 9 tuning in or around Georgia
I am looking for someone to take long term advice and tuning on my future evo in Georgia. Topspeed Motorsport says they don’t mess with 8/9s any more and I don’t know who else is out there. Any advice?
Welcome to the forums. This is long winded but may be helpful to you or others .
The guys at ER are an excellent resource for Etuning. Lots of great results and easy to work with.A good stock ecu map has hundreds of hours into it and has tweaks that the common man may not figure out. You get what you pay for. Its nice to have good start up,drive ability and a safe tune.
You would want the car to be ready for the tune, new plugs gapped at .019-.022, boost leak test , enough injector/fuel pump for your goals etc..
I still think anyone with an evo or a boosted car should take a class on the basics of tuning. It will help you understand whats taking place inside your 10-25K investment.

Injector dynamics has once again raised the bar with their injectors. A set of ID1300x will make around 500whp on E85 on an evo. Great response, fuel mileage and respectable power.

Read on the dual slope matching that will soon be available on the entire X series line

The 4g63 is an old engine and historically doesn't need much timing to run. You could roughly set your final timing@7500 to 11-13 and slowly work backwards taking timing out down to 1* at 3000 rpm in the correct wot load areas. For 93/E85 and small turbo's.
A dyno is a great tool to figure out what the timing/boost is doing but the professionals like ER have done it so many times they know the recipe.
The evo can support 600-750whp well when built correctly but still requires a good amount of upkeep IMO. I think a stock block evo at 500whp is the sweet spot for an easy full face clutch (ACT sprung) and the short stock final drive 4.53 of these cars. At that level you can have alot of affordable fun and parts will live.
Hope this helps you on the journey down the rabbit hole.

Try James Emmino at EBtec in Marietta/ Powder Springs GA. He is very familiar with building and tuning Evos . He owns a 2006 Evo IX . He worked on my 8 MR for several years whenever it needed something. Installed a FP 71 HTA on it at the end.. very experienced 4G63 engine builder as well

Yeah I’ve seen some on Instagram there aswell. The guy on the phone just said “we don’t mess with DSM or 8/9s any more. We can do 10s though”. It might of just been the person on the phone.
Went to TopSpeed last week for the Evo9. Taylor will be tunning my 1g soon as well.
I take this back and I would stay away from them period!
