Doing a stereo installation for a friend
I would love to have a nice system in my car. I would just rather spend the money on making it fast. I want my cake and eat it too...It is a little problem that I have but I am trying to work on it.
Why do i all of a sudden have the urge to go pull my car and truck apart to upgrade my sound?
The second time i do stuff i usually spend the time to do it as best i can cause i regret not taking the time you took to do it the first time.

Well, the car finally made it out of a 2 mile radius of my house for the first time in 9 months or so. It's actually in Vegas where George drove it to CES!
I was tuning the sub and the output was really low, so I cranked it pretty high, probably about 3/4 of the way up, and it still wasn't loud. Well, it was loud, but not 2000 watts loud. Well, I had forgotten the battery was pretty flat, so while George drove it to Vegas, the battery voltage started going up as it charged, and the amps started putting out more wattage. He called me today and said by the time he got to Vegas, he felt like he was deaf because he didn't know how to turn the sub down. lol. Should've learned how to use your headunit!
I gotta wait for him to come back, install all the panels, help install the gauge control units, etc, and finish up the trunk and I'll take some completed pics. Oh, and figure out if we're going to do a SPDIF passthrough on the computer, or use the AUX input on the headunit for the computer.

Sorry I couldn't post a reply sooner, but none of you know what it's like to not drive your baby for this long. Jdub's right, you can't read the owner's manual and drive, but once I got the hang of operating the head unit, it's cake. The sub hits very hard, and I'm actually shocked at how much air one 12" can push. I also got the center channel working, and the computer is up and running. The clarity of the head unit isn't realized until there is enough power to run the entire system, and it is the cleanest setup probably to be seen in an evo. I have to whole-heartly thank Jdub and Rushin for all da help! I'll post up finished pics when I get the rest of the interior put back together.

No prob, Jason! I'll bring you back the car as soon as I can. I recently had it clayed and waxed so it looks really nice sitting in my garage. I finished setting up the computer and cleaned the whole interior. I put all the trim pieces, screws, and clips in one box along with the owners manuals. I'll take some pics soon and post them so peeps can see what's been going on with it. The Russian and I are coming down soon so we can finish the sensor installs for the gauges and boost controller. Anyways, see you soon.

bump for pics
you guys said it is a 5.1 system. what are you using for processing for the 5.1? the computer? all i see for 5.1 is the alpine digital processor. i'm looking to do an install of this magnitude as well and love the insight.
how hard is it to remove the a pillars for the tweets?
any tricks for the capacitor? (i've never done it myself, is there any charging or extra process needed or is it plug and play)

I'll take some pics when george brings the car back for me to finish it up
CHIGGA73, you're right, the center amp is an Alpine 5.1 digital processor, and 5 channel amp as well.
Like Cj98 said, just start at the top and pull. I use a old credit card to slip under the plastic, and pull. The rest should just pop out.
For the capacitor, hook it up in your system where it's going to go, making sure to leave the main underhood fuse out. Then use a resistor, or light bulb, or anything that is DC and draws some current and place it where the fuse would go. I used a resistor and some fans to speed up the process. When the fans slow down, light dims, etc, it should be done. You can check by putting a voltmeter across the - + of the cap and it should read 12V.
edit* - George, I think you should sell your computer and get this:

No just kidding, but I thought it was pretty cool since it looks like an amp.
