Doing a stereo installation for a friend
The 0 awg power disconnect is from www.partsexpress.com and do a search for "Breakaway Power Connectors"
Yeah, it's taking a while and I just want to be done w/ this install at this point. I went on vacation for two weeks, and then was busy helping w/ my sister's wedding for the three weeks after that so I was lucky to get any work done on the car at all this past month.
Hopefully I can give the car back as a Xmas present. LoL

Don't trip, JDub... It will be finished before then. I'm going to come down and help out probably tomorrow so that we can get some of this wiring nightmare done. By the way, you still haven't shown me any pics of your trip.
Dude
If I ever gave my car up for 6 months to put a stereo in it, I'd shoot myself.
Especially since you're not going to get hi fi from an Evo to begin with (sup awesome 30hz muffler, to name a few reasons)
Looks cool at least.

Don't Trip about the loud exhaust I'm running 3000w RMS of pure sound. I don't think i'll even hear my motor. The system is 5.1 with dvd and dolby digital. It's mainly for the highway driving where I don't want to hear my exhaust drone. That's also why I installed guages cuz I won't hear my turbo after I'm done. BTW, 6 months of not driving the evo is nothing. I lost my license for a year and that sucked. Plus, I have other cars I can drive like my 2006 CLK350 Drop Top. The hoes seem to like it anyways.
The oil was changed, new gas put in, sparkplugs were taken out, regapped, a little bit of oil was poured in through the sparkplug holes, and the car was started for the first time in 6 months. A bit of white smoke spewing out of the back was fun to watch.
Resistors soldered onto the computer fans, and it was found that the wireless antenna is too short so a new one must be put on before the driver's seat can be put back in. George, check out this link.
George, I think you should look for some solution for the CPU fan because that thing is loud. Either some software to slow it down, or a different CPU heatsink, or maybe use a different fan.

In the process of buying xmas gifts and making some xmas gifts.
Oh you meant the car. Har har.
Umm, let's see, had some weird power problems that suddenly dissapeared after I left the car alone for a couple days. I started making up reasons for the problem, because I've never seen it before, but then it fixed itself. I duno what that was about. I think George might have messed some stuff up when he tried wiring up his foglights himself the first time.
So, got the thing powered up now, and trying to tune it. These speakers sound okay, but they don't have much character and sound pretty bland to me, but that's my own opinion and taste. I didn't like my JLs before I took them out, but a lot of people liked them for their accuracy, and I think these sound similar.
Anyway, this headunit/amp combo are a freaking nightmare to navigate. Alpine did a horrible job planning out these menus and functions. It's making tuning 2-4 times worse of a job.
Sub isn't playing right now, but I keep forgetting to throw the switch to allow a lower input voltage. Hopefully that'll do it. Otherwise it'll be another thing I've never had happen before and I'm going to be stumped.
I don't think the computer is gonna play through the speakers with the current setup. I think we need to do it the way I recommended before with a passthrough through the computer. I was looking at the computer the other day and it allows for an optical passthrough. Headunit to computer to amp. That's going to require more computer setup. I'll just run a new cable from the headunit to the computer. I'm going to leave the soon-to-be extra cable in there because it's too much trouble to get it out.
George needs to bring the longer wireless antenna so we can install it.
You guys need to finish up with the engine stuff so the bumper can go back on so I can drive it every now and then so the battery doesn't die again.
I relocated the GPS antenna to the rear shelf. I embedded some magnets in the panel so that the GPS antenna sticks to it.
The stereo is pretty much done, it just needs to be tuned.
All the engine stuff needs to be installed.
I think that's it.

battery died again. Need front bumper installed so that I can drive the car to charge the battery so that I can tune the system.
If I try tuning the system now, it'll flatten and damage the battery even further.
I'd install the bumper myself but I don't know where the screws are.

George and a couple friends removed the bumper a long time ago and I don't know where they stashed the screws. I usually have this rubber container that I put loose screws into, or I loosely re-install the screws so that I don't lose them, but they put them in a box or something else, and it'll take me hours to find it in our garage so I'd rather them just come over and install it themselves...
The car could've been done two weeks ago, but I'm just waiting on them to come over and finish their stuff so that I can clean up, tune the system, and give the car back.
