Doing a stereo installation for a friend
Finally! This thing took forever... Oy.
The front. It's hinged because it won't fit into the trunk at the full width.
THIS is what took the longest time. The ugly trimming of the back.
Some more trimming. I beveled the front to make it look a little nicer. I'm going to put in some switches in the hole.
Test fitting.

Middle of carpeting.
Done carpeting. The plexi fits nice and snug, but I'm still going to put in some braces to hold it in.
And in the trunk.

now you can can see that it will finish up real clean. It looks awesome! By the way I can't remember reading it form the earlier post, but there is not a spare tire. Right? And How much longer do you think it will take to get everything in place and workin?
You are for sure doing an awesome job man, god work
Yeah, from the beginning, he didn't care whether I kept the spare or not. One of the original brainstorms even had the amps in the spare tire well. Even if I kept it in there, I don't think it would've been easily removable since the amprack covers about half of the spare. The CD changer is going to go into the spare tire well.
How much longer.... I duno, maybe 3-4 weeks. I still have a lot of wiring in the trunk (including the amps themselves), install the crossovers, headunit and wires, computer, LCD, and then some misc stuff for his engine and radar detector, etc
Thanks for the kind words!

Funny you should ask. I just finished cutting the switch panel tonight.
The switches are for the neons in the amprack, and the light I'm going to mount on the trunk lid. The stock trunk light is inside the amprack so you need a new trunk light. There's a third, extra switch incase you want to add something later on.
So I ordered these switches that were supposed to have red LEDs, but for some reason, they were green. Well, red would've been okay, but green definately won't fit a blue theme, so I changed the LEDs out for blue ones.
I used regular 3mm blue LEDs, but they were too big like this.
So I used the dremel and sanded it down until it was about the same size as the original ones.
And I mounted them on a piece of aluminum. This is going to go into the hole in the picture in the above post.

He's not paying me anything, I don't think I've done anything bad to him, and he doesn't have a sister and I have a girlfriend. Haha. He wanted me to do the build, but I didn't really want to do it because I quit doing big projects like this a while ago. But he didn't give me a budget, and as you can see, I don't have any timeframes or deadlines, so I figured I might as well.
I finished the amprack cover frame today. I still need to finish the plexi off though.
Installed some brush grommets.

Then I spent a long while wiring up the switches. What a pain in the butt. I didn't take any progress pics, but here it is all cleaned up. The leds in the switches had their own two contacts (weren't prewired to turn on when the switch is on. go figure) so I had to wire those separately to turn on when the switch is on.
Loomed all the wires so it wouldn't be all spaghetti-ed.
I used a 9-pin serial connector for the connection to the amprack.
I tested everything before I secured it all down. The white light is going on the trunk lid as a trunk light. For George: the leftmost switch isn't hooked up. I put it in incase you wanted to add more toys later on, center switch is for the blue amprack lights, right switch is for the white trunk light.

This is what I'm talking about! I don't need xzibit to pimp my ride. I just need a solid person who cares about asthetics like jdub! By the way, I love how the switches match the neons. It's a nice little addition. Thanks so far.
