Some install notes:

- I ordered 6.5" and they were too small and need 'custom' mounting brackets
- The tweeters were 1" and were perfect fitment
- Redid all the speaker wire and it was a PITA to string the wire through the boot between the door and the frame
- The stock tweeters were torqued very tight to the brackets
- Changing the head units was the easiest part of the install
- Mounted Amp to the wall of the trunk instead of the floor to save space
- Opted against a separate sub band pass box/bazooka tube due to weight and space

Good luck!
Thats pretty much the same thing I'm looking to do. Thansk for the tips ..... how did you fix the speakers being too small?

The speakers are 6.5 but you will need a 6 3/4 adapter....

Tweeter as everyone has said is 1" and the depth clearance depends on how you mount it..

Factory sub is 8" with no more than 4.25" mounting depth..

Audio questions go in "Evo Show & Shine" usually.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
For SSL the front and rear speakers are the same size (6.5" woofer with a 6.75" bracket around it). Most aftermarket speakers will come with an adapter bracket that will fit these locations fine. Alpine brackets work great in the front, but are a little too small for the rear so some sort of gasket needs to be placed around the speaker so it doesn't vibrate against the rear deck.

The stock tweeters are about an inch in diamter. There is plenty of room in all directions for most any aftermarket tweeter, especially if you don't use the stock mounting bracket and mount them directly to the A-pillar instead. Even if you use the stock bracket, it is quite easy to get an aftermarket tweeter to fit on it.

The stock subwoofer I believe is 8". I don't see any point in replacing this speaker since it won't work with any aftermarket amp. You are better suited by getting an aftermarket box and placing that in the trunk than trying to get this speaker to work.

Unfortunately I didn't have mounting brackets so my 'custom' method was to tear out the old speakers and use the original frame as the brackets for the new speakers. They worked well since it was just a matter or attaching the new speakers to the old frames which then bolted in tho the original mount points into the door, etc.

Guess this is not an option if you plan to keep the OEM speakers. I'm sure any stereo shop could throw together some mounting brackets or spacers betweeen the speakers in the door.

On a final note, the MB Quarts included mounting brackets however they weren't a fit into the doors or back.

A router and some 1/4" MDF is another way of making brackets. Most stereo shops that do installs carry the required brackets though.

If you order speakers through Crutchfield, they supply the speaker adapter brackets for free.
Note: this is for the door or rear deck area, not the tweeter.

Per what LilJapnBoy said, is correct, trying to pull the wire though the door boot is a real pain! I ended up cutting two slits on each side and basically bypassed the boot.

Maybe tomorrow I can post some more pictures of the install, including the speaker bracket.

pioneer makes 6 3/4" speakers that will fit. the depth on the front door is 2 3/4" inches and the front tweeter depth is 1". the back is pretty much any depth depending on magnet size. there are also lancer specific 6 3/4 to 6 1/2" speaker adapters that you can order. i have the link at home. they are about 12 a pair.

Has anyone taken out the factory sub and put in maybe a 10 or 12, using the stock amp? How did it sound. I like the way the stock setup sounds, but missin the BOOM of 2 12's, I was thinking of just adding a different sub and keeping everything else, any thoughts?

I just put infinity kappa 6 3/4 in my mr. The speakers will fit fine, but since crutchfeild doesnt think they will fit, I had to make my own custom brackets, which was somewhat a pita, other then that they fit fine. Just thought I'd share my experience since everyone says 6.5's are the only ones that fit.
