Can anyone point me to a consumer reports-type review that I could use to make an intellignet decision?

I don't have either if these units, but I have a Garmin 2610 Streetpilot. Bottom line, you can adjust the volume, and I would never ever leave home without it. It works in rain, storm, fog and especially at night in unfamilar places. The "especially at night in unfamilar places" is real important to me because I travel a lot and get to most of my destinations in the evening or at night. The Garmin is not perfect, but with my model I can do my pretrip planning on the computer and look at the route on my desktop. I can then layout the "easiest way" for me to get where I want to go and then upload the map or route to the unit. Also, I have the Garmin (Mapsource) software on my laptop. I used Garmin to find my way to Tuning Technologies from San Diego (you are familar with those guys right?) and it took me right there.
