Hiding a double DIN?

I'm considering going the double DIN conversion route and stickin in an appropriate unit (Pioneer Z1 seems like the most likely choice). Well, I'm wondering... for all those who have a double DIN source unit in their cars, how do you hide it / secure it / etc? On a single DIN, like the Pioneer flip out head unit I had in another car, you could pop off the lower half of the front control face and take it with you. Granted, NOTHING will deter a thief but it's better than nothing. Any ideas? Lemme know. Thanks.

You could build a fake blank panel over it and stick it on w/ velcro when you leave the car. put some fake, cheap looking gauges on it or something

if someone sees a covering over it, they might be even more curious and be tempted to find out whats hidden...

Tint your windows and get an alarm. A good cover that looks like a factory blank would fool most people. Good luck.

Heh, I was thinking a picture of a hole in the dash.

I dislike double DINs for the very reason that they are so expensive, look tacky, and theives love them, but if you gotta do it an alram is the only way to possibly deter them.

that's the right idea. what i've seen on a few forums is doing exactly this. instead of using just a blank piece though, go out and get an old double din factory head unit (junkyard, ebay, etc) and take just the face off of it and use that for a cover.

something like this \/
