Angry Trouble Installing trim on new HU

Ok so I installed my Alpine 9833 HU but I cant seem to get the trim around the stereo to clip on. The stereo doesnt come out far enough. So just picture the HU without this

It looks like crap. Anyone know of a way to fix this. Should i just remove the brackets and drill new holes on them. Thanks

I had the same problem with an Alpine headunit I installed a couple of years ago in my Evo. I used a big file and slowly ground down the plastic of the trim piece, being careful to not nick the mounting tangs. It took a while, but I finally got it to fit. Unfortunately I dinged up the paint a little bit, so I repainted the trim piece with dark metallic model airplane paint.

I had the same problem with my Pioneer. Someone else said to put a few washers behind the mounting ears for the head unit to put it out far enough to clip the trim on. Im yet to do mine.

install the trim piece on the radio first. Then install the dash piece over that.

Here is why it doesnt fit. The radio trim ring doesnt fit with the stock brackets very well because they are designed to be iso mounted flush, so the radios sits recessed in the dash. If you use the mounting bracket that came with the radio and slide it into the opening from the front then the radio fits with the trim ring perfectly.

But if I do that how am I going to tighten the bolts from the back. I think ill just put a couple of washers in before the bracket and screw it tight, maybe get longer screws.

YOU dont need any bolts. The radio comes with its own "cage". That cage secures it into the dash. Put the big panel back in the dash, and slide the cage in from the front of the hole...it will not fall through. Then use a screwdriver to fold down as many tabs as possible to secure the cage into the dash. Then the radio will slide right in and LOCK itself into the cage.

Some cars are ISO mount ( mostly japanese cars) and the trim ring wont fit because the stock units are flush, well unfourtunatley most aftermarket radios dont fit flush. Use the cage and the trim ring will fit like a glove.

Why "RIG" it with washers when you can do it right with the parts provided ???

because a stereo bolted in is more scure than one held in with tabs.

both ways work.
