Light weight Amps!

Ok, now I got 4 amps purchased for my setup and I swear these new amps gotten heavier over the years. I don't know about you guys, but my evo w/ Zeal coilovers feel and hate every new pound of weight placed on the car. I think there is less of the issue w/ spring and stock struts.

I added JL ea4.. 4ch amp and then replaced it w/ Eclipse EA4000 amp which is heavier. I think they weight around 10lbs and 15lbs, respectively. I remember that old Rockford Fosgate being rather light and compact, a little taller but really light.

Any of you run into 'lighter' amps?

Why in god's name did you replace a JL amp with an Eclipse amp? JL is way better, IMHO. What model # JL did you have? The A series?

Alpine's amps tend to be pretty light, relatively. Stay away from JBL, most of their amps are heavier than necessary for the power they're outputting.

Just be done with it and get a single JL 1000/1. Some 4 gauge wire. You're SET!

what the? it's a JL 4ch AB class and it does not sound better than Eclipse!

I 'm looking for light amps and no JL is heavy as ****.

BTW, JBL amps are good value. At least their older amps were...

check out the alpine PDX series. They are about the size of a standard desk phone, and they are stackable. I've just ordered 2 (4.150 and 1.1000) so I'll be able to post up some pics later for comparison.

Xtant has some small Class D amps. Can't tell you the exact weight but they should be lighter than normal.

Is it really going to make that much difference? Unless you're running an all out race car, which from your mods you're not, the weight of the amps won't even be noticeable. And FWIW, Eclipse isn't nearly as good as they once were.

I'll let you pick up my buddies Massive Audio 6K watt amp in his Tahoe. That sucker probably weighs 40 or 50lbs! It took 2 of us to mount the damn thing! Though, it probably doesn't weigh anything compared to the 6 12's he has running off of it.
