looking for really small 4 channel amp
Yeah, you're right. They don't technically consider them Class D...but they share a lot of the same engineering and design. So, they pretty much function as Class D, but don't sound like Class D. Pretty ingenious design I think. Either way, I hear they are pretty decent amps. Anyone have any installed in their car? Or, heard them on a board at the car stereo store?
Thanks.Yes, I've heard them in 2 different cars. They seem to be very solid and the 4x150 produced a nice clean signal to the MB Quarts I heard. The 100x1 is under-rated. It was putting like 1250 to the type X I heard. Gotta give Alpine a
I've got a get of these, and am very glad I got them.
The alpine PDX amps sound fantastic as far as I'm concerned, and have been reviewed very well. Heat with them mounted under the seat is not a problem I've encountered, and I've pushed them pretty good. On the Evo, I decided to mount the 1000.1 under the driver's seat, and the 4.150 under the passenger seat. The amps will fit perfectly in the "groove" under the seat, and you can easily get to the crossovers (and take off the amp controls covers) from the back of the seat with it pushed all the way forward. That is why I faced the amps connection-side-front.
Since the amps are stackable, I decided to make some mounting rails to mount an Alpine H701 processor on-top of the PDX 4.150. This way, I could go optical from the HU, and then have my RCA cables from pre-amp to power amp be about a foot long for the 4.150, and that really kept noise at bay. I did buy the H701 for the other features like active crossovers, EQs, etc, but it was nice how it worked out on top of the PDX 4.150 from a packaging and wiring stand-point.
Here are some pics from various stages of install.
The 4.150 mounted, but wiring not done yet. Power and ground wiring were not cut back and packaged yet either.

With the rails mounted to support the H701 (yes, the ground will be shorter than shown here)

See, you can still get to the crossovers, and it's not problem to remove/replace the controls cover with the seat re-installed (is much easier if you push the seat all the way up though). Does not really matter to me since I use the active crossovers in the H701 anyway, but I do need to get to the gains.

Here's a pic from the top with the H701 mounted and all the wiring connected. I ended up cleaning it up a bit prior to putting the seat back, but this is mostly how it ended up on this side of the car.

It should be evident from the pics that you should have no problem fitting the PDX4.150 under the seat. It will be well-concealed, not interfere with rear-passenger leg-room (even with seat pushed up quite a bit), and well out of eyesight from passengers. You even have room to mount another component on top if it is not too tall. There is no way a couple of stacked PDXs would have fit under there, but the H701 did without any interference with the seat or the seat hardware underneath.
I don't have any pics of the drivers-side handy, but it's less busy than under the passenger seat since it's just the PDX 1.1000 and a 0gaX4ga power distribution block.
Another good thing is about these amps is they are not that heavy, and are very efficient for wattage delivered. It's nice to have some amps that pack a punch but don't clobber my electrical system.

Here's as small as they get, but you need a carPC to run it (its USB):

They're only 2 channel, but small enough that you could run 2 of them.

I think I might have read that they're coming out with a 4 channel version. . .
