Best replace 4 channel amp for SSS package in $300 range
Best replacement 4 channel amp for SSS package in $300 range
looking to upgrade my amp with a 4 channel amp. JBL looks to have some decent amps for not bad prices. Im a huge fan of Pioneer DJ equipment but havent had their car audio stuff yet but they have some nice stuff as well. Ive read that with a 4 channel you run the door speakers off 2 channels and then the subwoofer bridged off the other 2 channels.
only thing im confused about is connecting the amp? some need a LOC and some dont? how do i know which is a direct hook up and which need LOC?

Alpine's PDX-F4 seems kinda nice.. 100RMSx4 and very small, so it should fit under your seat, like the SSS amp does. Crutchfield sells it for $500, but I've seen it other places for under $300 (probably unauthorized dealers, though). JL's XD400/4 is 75RMSx4 and also very small ($400 at Crutchfield and $300 at a couple no-name retailers). However, I'm not sure if either of these amps can be configured to run in 3-ch mode.. I always assumed the stock SSS amp was just a 5-channel amp, but I might be wrong about that.
Most any brand-name amp should be somewhat decent.. just depends if you want a super compact one that will fit under your front seat, or a cheaper medium-sized one that might fit behind the rear seat, in the space between your washer fluid reservoir and battery. You might want to take some measurements of your intended mounting location 1st, then shop around for amps that will fit. Should narrow it down a little bit.
Not sure what you're referring to about LOC.. but there's a nice tutorial around here for replacing the stock SSS amp with an aftermarket 4-channel amp that should help.
Also, you might want to consider the wattage.. 75 and 100 watts RMS is kinda high for even some aftermarket speakers, and I honestly have no idea if the stock Fosgate speakers can handle that much. Might be okay by just turning down the gains if necessary.
Good luck!
