egt gauge

hey guys, i have the prosport electrical boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, and egt gauge. My buddy with a IX said he will put them in, but the egt gauge will cost me more cuz of the install. is it really that hard, cuz i know you have to drill into the manifold, he said he would take it off so shavings dont get in the turbo, which is smart. Should i pay, or get a different gauge. And the reason for the hassle, i have no idea what im doing

I have it and love it, however, you dont need to take it off to drill it out, a good drill should pull all the shaving outward, just make sure to lube the drill bit and keep blowing the shavings out to there isnt a pile in the hole to fall into the manfold! We tapped mine and under 10 minutes and no problems at all! No need to pay extra for it!

Just make sure to stop before the drill breaks through, coat it with grease and all the shavings will stick to it. Runner two is where I have mine. BTW the metal is pretty thin so go easy and slow.

If you're brave, drill it with the engine running - the positive pressure will blow shavings out.

Yeah, like Voidhawk said ... just start slowly. Once you have a start (without piercing the inside wall of the mani), start the car and let it idle. Keep drilling it out. The positive mani pressure will blow the chips out. Tap the hole with the motor running too.

+1

that is what I did. Just have you friend rev the motor a little when the drill is about to make the hole into the manifold.

It took me longer to decide where to mount the guage then tap the probe lol

I've done that on several Evo's when installing EGT guages, and have not run into a single problem..... Saves a lot of time thats for sure!

Also make sure you don't tap the hole too deep. Tap a bit, then test how far in the probe sits. Definitely don't pay extra.

Good choice on the gauges as well. I have Prosports in my Subie. Very accurate and can't beat the price. Great bang for the buck.
