Questions on Amp install
Ok, I'm a noob. I can install servers secret networks, but when it comes to car...i'm clueless. I planning to install an amp/sub and later on another amp and speakers. To prepare, I got a couple of questions...already
:
1. What is a good product to "seal" around the gormet so water doesn't leak in and where do I get it from
2. Better yet, where do I get some spare goremt?
3. I planned to install the amps on the back seat in the trunk, is there a hole or screw near by on the chasis, so I can just use that for the ground? I really don't want to drill a hole.
4. How easy is it to remove the door sill and back seat?
Thanks!

You can get grommets at a local hardware store. Good luck tryin to mount your amps on the back part of the seat. You'll need to remove the plastic piece that is there and its a pain. Prolly your best bet is to mount the amps on boards or create some kind of adapter to make it easier, not to many places to mount amps. Door sill pops right up, lil stiff but it will come up. Rear seat is two lil handles located just underneath the seat. Pull towards the front of the car and you'll feel a slight click that means it's disengaged. Hope this helps

Just use some sort of silicone sealant. Also, if installed properly, you can run your wires in through the kick panel behind the driver side fender. That is where all the wires are coming into the car. You can actually pull it through the factory grommet.
Also, you can install them on the back seat easily if done right. You need to remove the rear seat and install a 1/8" mdf board on the rear seat support. Then you can mount and run your wires underneath the amp(s). This will make the install very clean.
Or, you have the option to do what i did and install them inside the car underneath the passenger and drivers seats. Real clean and extremely hard to steal.

Really? So there's room underneath the back seat for a pair of amps? Have you done this or seen it done? I would love that to be true for my coming install! I guess I need to pull mine up and see what's there.
For sealing, I've just used window poly sealer sitting around the garage.
You can get gromments at any hardware store/auto parts store.
Many people have used the bracket attached to the side of the seats as a ground. Once you remove the carpet, you'll see where it is. Remove the paint first before you ground it.
Door sill...cake! But I've never removed my seats. You can just route the all the cables/wires through the crease in between the bench of the seat and the back of the seat. Definitely use MDF to mount the amps...should turn out like this :

OK, tonight I removed the bottom of my back seat ... no way amps are gonna fit underneath the lower seat cushion.
Back to putting them in the trunk, I think (like the photo above), since my factory amp is staying under the front seat.

I guess you misunderstood me, when i said remove the back seat, that is to provide a harder mounting surface like in the picture above. The user above chose to run his wires down to the floor rather than in behind the amps. To each his own, it's not a clean install in my book. You should never see any wires.
Good shielded wires have no issues running along with 4-ga wire...I have all my wiring running under the pass. door sills to the back.
BTW, that pic isn't of my setup...but I thought I'd be a good reference pic in this case.
