Bunch of Stereo Install Questions

Alright, I want to put in my stereo this weekend. I'll be replacing the deck with Panasonic CQ-C8400U deck :

http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp...odel=CQ-C8400U

and I'll be putting in a JL Audio 500/1 Amp, and JL Audio 10" W7.

I'll be using a Rockford Fosgate 1 fared cap, and using their 4awg 800w amp/signal kit (I can push 1000 watts with the W7, so I'll need to replace the fuse with something a little higher, no biggie. My bro works at best buy so the kit is cheap)

I've done alot of searching on the forums, and just want to confirm these questions, and clean up any holes to make sure I have a solid plan going into the install tomorrow.

What's the best way to run the power / rca / lead wire to the trunk area? From reading, there is a small plug on the passanger side to run the power through the firewall. Whats the best way to run the power lead to that hole? Once inside, what's the best way to run it to the back? Under the moulding? Where through the back seat? How about from the dash back?

Is there alot of room in the back of the dash? On my head unit there is a big clunky thing, that I'll need to tuck away somewhere.

Where's the best place to ground the amp / capacitor?

How easy is the dash to take apart? Where are all the screw locations?

Finally, any special tools that I will need? any pitfalls I'm bound to hit that you found the hard way?

Thanks for the info! I love having a strong plan when I go into projects

Tom

I ran my power and remote wires down the drivers side under all the door trim. 4 gauge is a tight fit but it will make it. once you get to the back take out the bottom back seat and run the wire across the area where the seat used to be. then you can just tuck it under the top back seats and into the trunk. you can do the same on the passanger side with the rca wires. as for the small plug on the passanger side. i would just drill a hole on the drivers side because going all the way to the passanger side from the battery is a waste of wire.

oh yeah to take the radio out pull all the knobs for the climate controls out of the dash. they should just slide out. there will be 2 screws holding the part of the dash that is around the radio under those knobs. take those out and pull the dash out carefully. then all you got to do is unscrew the radio. also i grounded my amp/cap to the floor under the carpet in the trunk, right behind the back seats. hope i helped some. good luck

as long as u got a evo 8 this works great did it to my evo last weekend ran light wires and a 4awg wire for amp down the road just follow the instructions and you will be fine. you can also just take ur center console out not too hard front part can stay in push wire up along driver side and take the back half off two screws inside arm rest , lifts up in back a bit then straight up in front ( if i rember correctly) then you can just lift the carpet a bit and run the wires under it and take the back seat out little plastic pull pin oneach side that lets you just take the bottem half of the seat out and push wires right into your trunk sweet ehh.. hope this helps ya
{edit} damn if my head wasnt attached with super glue id forget where i left it

You can also fish the wire through the driver side fender. There is an opening just a little past the strut assembly toward the headlight. You can fish the line all the way through to the cab . There is a gromet plug that you can cut a hole in to push the line through. It is located close by the dead pedal in the evo. After that you can just run it along the bottom door trim through to the trunk. Or just drill a hole in the fire wall according to evomoto.com . I did that with all my gauge wiring and came out very well with no problems. There are alot of options in running line into the evo. Just gotta be inventive

Dan

evomoto has some nice tutorials, thanks for the reccomendation.

Still very hesitant about drilling, I'm still planning on running over to the passanger side. The wiring kit I got is 17ft long, hope it will be long enough!

Keep all of your wiring on the same side as the battery, with the exception of the rca's, those are ran away from power. I didn't drill a single hole in my car, but do what you want, I just don't plan on keepin the car forever, and holes=lower value, costly repairs. I ran the power wire through the opening in the driver's side front fender. All power, remote down driver's side and rca's, remote bass knobs rj45 down the pass side.
