Alpine CDA-9884

Thinking about purchasing this Headunit for my evo. I have the red theme almost finish in my car (3 Defi BF amber gauges, red HVAC unit and the stock OEM red odometer).

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...&tp=5684&avf=N

Really wanted a HU with mostly red. Anyone have pics of this HU in the darK while it's lit up?

Is this HU worth the upgrade? I know barely anything about car stereo equipment. Please help.

Jason

Alpine makes badass headunits. I have the old 9835 in my Evo and love it. Great upgrade over stock.

Yeah, It's def. worth the upgrade. Having the iPod connection is worth it alone. Sometimes the morning talk shows are annoying, so it's nice jamming to your own kind of music..Crutchfield will include all the wiring adapters. it's really plug and play.

Will I have any issues upgrading my speakers in the future with this HU? I really only want a new HU, speakers and an amp if need-be.

Thanks

Alpine makes some of the best HU imo. I have one in my other vehicle and I like it a lot, better than the Pioneer I used to have. I'm actually waiting for crutchfield to have the idx-100 in stock to put it in my evo. I dont know about the color because mine is blue but upgrading your speakers in the future should not be an issue.

I purchased the 9885 headunit from crutchfield and have been very happy with unit. Much better over stock. You can set the lights so that all of them display red. you will have problems with your sub. Crutchfield will tell you that it won't work. I had my local shop install the unit and they were able to wire the sub. I just can't adjust it without a seperate amp. Also have them include the Ipod adapter as mentioned above. So worth it. Next for me will be the blue tooth connection.

The cda9884 comes with the ipod adapter in the box. The unit will work very well and will give you plenty of room to upgrade speakers in the future. It has 3 preouts for adding amps also. I will try to get a pic for you next time im at work at night ill shut the lights off and take it for ya.

I would like to see some of your installs. The last head unit I put in the car didn't look right and I needed the 1980s plastic surround piece to hide gaps. I do not want to deal with that again.

I just recently installed an alpine 9885 for crutchfield and i love it. They included everything I needed to install for my car. The lighting is switchable to all red to match your interior lighting perfectly, thats exactly what i just completed. Do you have the factory amp? If so I would recommend the alpine 9885 if your willing to spend the extra 50 bucks. It will support future upgrades later. Anyway there both great and you cant go wrong with either one.

I have the 9885 as well and it is def worth it over the 9884 for the ability to upgrade later and the biolite display is much easier to read.

I"m a newbie to in-car stereo equipment. I don't have the SSL package. Please explain why it's easier to upgrade later?

I'm not looking to have subs or anything. I just want a nice HU, upgraded speakers and an amp.

Should I not go with the 9884 if this is my plan? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't mind spending the extra money on the 9885, but really liked the red of the 9884.

I was in the same position as you a couple of weeks ago. I had just completed changing all of my hvac controls cig lighter clock etc. to all red and I wanted a deck to match the red. I originally found the 9884 and thought it was perfect. After further research I found that I would be better to go with the 9885 as it has 3 sets of 4 volt preamp outputs as opposed to 2 volt preamp outputs. Those extra 2 volts will come into play when you install an amp. In theory the music should sound more crisp. Plus like I stated earlier the main buttons on the deck which appear to be blue are switchable between blue and red so it matched my interior perfectly. I can try to post some pics if you would like me to.
