Not like anyone really needs to remind you but . . . MAKE SURE your negative battery terminal is disconnected before you do *anything* electrical.
Being the brilliant genius that I am, I figured it would be easier to put in a new head unit without doing this (how am I gonna test the new head unit before screwing it in if the batt's disconnected, right?).
I shorted out something really important and now have lost the following:
1) Clock
2) Trip odometer
3) Power doors or windows (without ignition)
4) Keyless entry
5) Dome lights
Yeah, I checked all the fuses and only the dome light was blown. Boy am I glad I saved $50 by doing the install myself . . .
Time to visit the dealer and bring the checkbook. D'oh!
Oh, I forgot to mention that because keyless entry didn't work, I locked myself out at Lowe's and had to spend $45 for a mobile locksmith to come and break into my car. Boy, I'm really good at saving that money, aren't I?

^^^+1 It should be one of the fuses in the little yellow clip (with 2 fuses in it) under the hood (that's the usual fuse that blows). Don't worry, this happens all the time. There's usually a thread about this same thing every couple few weeks.
lol live and learn.... coulda been worse honestly... and thats what fuses are for.
i had a buddy try to re mount the license plate on his gixxer lower, and right where the rear coilover is.... so he drills two holes in the panel right there... turned out he drilled straight through a 900 dollar ecu. ouch!
good luck bro.

Yes, I checked the fuses inside the little yellow clip (which was a massive ***** to get out of the box), also.
Hes right this same thing happened to me and thats where the blown fuse was..
Check those fuses with a multimeter on the ohm setting. If you get anything but 0 or very close to it they're bad. Sometimes, although pretty rare, you can blow a fuse and it not be easily visible. That or you need to recheck your wiring.

I'll keep checking those fuses.

The Little Dome Light 10A Fuse Is The Key
It turns out that *EVERYTHING* (well, I haven't checked the trip odometer yet) that was broken for me hinged on that little dome light fuse; I was checking and checking and checking (even with an ohmmeter as suggested) each of the fuses looking for the "other ones" that were blown to restore functionality to my power locks/windows, keyless entry, etc.
Well, all of that stuff is run off of the dome light fuse, apparently!
This is going to be a significantly cheaper visit to the dealer than I expected!
Thanks, everyone!

IF a fuse keeps blowing that means there is a short somewhere. What did you change? Go back and look at the wiring, somewhere there is a lead grounding out, either wire on wire, water, etc.
Double check everything.
Double check everything.
