Precision strikes to better sounds for an SSL car

OK so I have had my IX SSL since march. I immediately upgraded the head unit to a decent but mostly average Kenwood Mp3 player with USB support.

I retained all the factory speakers and amps.

... and it sucks. I mean it doesnt totally suck but bass and midrange response at anything under 22 on the volume setting (which i think is moderately high) really blows.

So just passively listening and not trying to blast the neighbor hood is less satisfactory than the OEM!!!!

What pieces and in what order will yeild me the best results... oh and I btw this car is autox so weight is the enemy and I dont have a budget. So this should be easy!!

TIA

You can try replacing the speakers or get an eq.

Shouldn't be. Any standard car audio speaker should be fine. You might even try replacing the stock amp with something that has a little bit more power. I bet the stock SSL speakers could use it. It's another option.

You want the best route? Buy new speakers, new amps, separate eq, and if you can swing it, a higher end head unit like the alpine cda-9887. Get all this together and then do the install all at once.

that requires major wiring becasue the ssl packaged cars have a different wiring then non ssl evos. All of the wiring goes to the amp under the driver seat with different/wierd plugs. Replacing the amp will require you to completely rewire the car with new wires.

I'd really just try replacing either the headunit or the factory amp. I've got the Alpine CDA 9886 and I noticed a big improvement in sound quality all over just from that with factory non SSL speakers. I used to be a huge audiophile too.
