Gauge cluster question
Has anyone removed their stock gauge cluster and installed another one in its place and had it work? I know some cars (BMW) will throw a light if you install a different cluster that says the odometer isnt accurate anymore. I wondered if the EVO's did that or not. And if it worked, does the odometer read what the mileage is on the car youre putting it into or the mileage that was on the car it was take out of? I just wondered if the mileage was stored in a body module or in the cluster itself.

) But the mileage is stored in the light module, and one other to which I forget that right now as well. Lmao. The IKE, or instrument cluster, is actually coded to the car at the dealership, meaning the vin and vehicle order, or options the car has are put into it. Once the cluster is coded to the car the cluster cannot be installed into another car and work normally. In the case of some of the BMW's, before D-bus was added, vehicle information was read from the cluster. So if you have the wrong cluster, you will get the wrong information on the vehicle. As for our instrument clusters, I think you can swap them fine except for how the other member was saying, the mileage is stored in the cluster i believe. I would try and take the cover plastic off and swap the needles before I swapped the whole cluster.

All that BMW does is it throws a small light on almost like a tamper light. I can't think of the name at this exact moment (I know exactly what it looks like too

Alright so FINALLY, I figured out what the dot is. I had a customer come in who had replaced his own instrument cluster without getting it coded. needless to say the cluster had 000 miles on it and this dot indicator was on. The dot is referred to as the Manipulation Dot. Its not very "noticeable" but it would bug the hell out of me if it was my car. Here is a picture for reference of exactly what it looks like. It is the little orange dot to the left of the mileage and under the word "miles" For referrence for eeveryone this was out of, I believe, a 2001 x5.
