Before tuning with the current Alpine I have, it was difficult to hear the difference in the car to be honest. After tuning with a seperate EQ and the Alpine imprint system, I personally can tell things sound correct from front to rear even if rear is just for fill....have I heard mismatched sets in this car? no, I haven't so honestly I can't say how bad it can be, but I have heard mismatched sets so I know what to listen for (which is unfortunate at times because purchases can become more expensive such as the case with my setup....haha!)

i also find it ironic people who buy expensive comps and speakers in a car that is so noisy!

^^ not probably ironic since it's all about personal preferences sir. for sure, this isn't for everybody and no one has claimed it to be but audio enthusiasts love to have challenges such as building systems in a car as noisy as the evo. it's all about respect.

It's not easy to build a system that has excellent sound quality in a car like the Evo. I have a 2005 Mercedes E-Class 320 4MATIC that has a Harmon Kardon, factory system. It sounds spectacular, but the E-Class is a VERY quiet and comfortable ride. Switch to the Evo and you're talking about a rather loud car with a MUCH stiffer suspension, even more so once my RobiSPEC coil overs go on. I enjoy my music, and I want to enjoy it on my daily driver (E-Class) and my weekend car (Evo). The factory sound system was simply not enough to satisfy my needs. So, I am attempting to get it closer to what I consider an acceptable level. I don't intent to compete in SPL or SQ comps, I just want to enjoy my sound. Just my opinion and what I want, and we all know what opinions are like.

Cheers,
Steve

So you are saying that my finely tuned setup that has been tuned by over 10 people and tuned to work within the loud confines of an evo and provide exceptional reproduction of whatever is played....that this system can be trumped by a low end 6x9 that are notorious for inaccuracy in everything they do? Please say yes so I can get my first laugh of the day

I don't believe he's saying that. I think what he is saying is kind of an odd decision to spend all that money and having all that /detail/clarity/accuracy when most of the time it will be competing against or drowned out by the noises the car makes.

I understand it's what you are into but, I can see the flip side of the coin as well.

Okay, I can understand that line of thinking, but I think it is rediculous to dismiss someone who has spent a lot of time and money building a system that takes into account the evo's environment and does everything it needs to do...and well. The evo has not and will not ever drown out or make my stereo unlistenable due to the tuning done. Btw....I don't consider the evo noisy...try building a hi fi system in a Honda....those are loud...the evo is downright quiet in comparison.

That looks great!. I got a Type-R "12 in my Evo and it sounds like I have 2 "12's. I couldn't imagine what having 2 would sound like...

Thanks! Setup is still going strong, have gotten a lot of props on how silent it is outside of the car.

Looks really nice!!

I had those same exact subs. I personally didn't care for them, but they did put out a decent amount of volume. Not enough SQ for me though.

Those Alpine amps are awesome. I love how small and powerful they are.
