My Kenwood deck g meter is way off

I have a Kenwood deck and I am just figuring out how to use the g meter function. It records Gs as well as "horsepower." It is way off though. I have only recorded 208 hp so far, in 4 runs. My car is closer to 300-310 on a Mustang dyno. Has anyone else had experience with these?

You have to "calibrate" the gmeter, and add vehicle weight, etc. to the headunit. I don't remember how to do it off the top of my head. It's in the menus. Go to kenwoodusa.com to download the instructions.

Yeah I did all that. I calibrated it and liste my car at both 3250 and 3450 lbs(including driver). I also have some stereo equipment. Oh well.

You can play with the settings to make it "closer" to what the actual dyno reads, but it really doesn't matter. Next time you mod the car (or demod it) have it dynoed. Lets say you gain 40whp on the dyno, putting you at340-350, then lets say the Kenwood shows 248, then its all good because it showed the same increase. That's all a dyno really is good far. IF it shows some wildly different change, I'd say forget using it and stick to music as its primary function.

I wonder if the radio sitting at an angle affects the readings?

Yes it will. The accelerometer in the deck is a single axis. There may be 4 of them not 100% sure, but I know the one(s) are single axis.

I wonder how greatly the main functionality of this stereo has been affected by this added "feature"....you know...the main functionality being SOUND?
