a used alpine 9884 or 9886 should be right in your range and they have the best Ipod control out of any head unit I've used that still had a CD slot.

Not sure, but Alpine makes the best head units hands down. Its been a couple years since I've looked at anything audio, but for as long as I have they've always made the highest quality head units. The subs and speakers are great too. The amps tend to die after a couple years I've found out.

you'll love the 9884. It can light up blue or red so the red will match your interior nicely and the Ipod control is flawless. You arent gonna be using an Iphone on it are you? It doesn't charge the Iphone 3G which is why I got the kenwood now but I wish I had waited for the new Alpines to come out. I may swoop up and IDA series Alpine soon since i NEVER listen to CDs. I really wish Parrot came out with the headunit they had hyped up FOREVER.

 

Im going to be using an iPod touch and they told me before hand that it would not charge it without a special adaptor. I should be fine because I've got tons of chargers at home and I leave a charger at work.

Its funny, I had the factory radio at volume 25 for cruising. Now I have the Alpine at volume 10 and its louder than the factory radio was!

 

I been researching new head units. Full ipod control with additional usb, 7 band eq and a bright display are the features i have been looking for.

The Pioneer deh-p510. Full Ipod control, 7 band graphic eq, usb. HD ready. BT ready. How is the display in full daylight?185.00 at Crutchfields with harness.

The JVC KD-AHD59 has built in HD radio, Ipod control. 7 band eq ( I think its parametric and not graphic eq.) 24 bit a/d. 175.00 at Sonic electronics. This one seems to have alot of features for the price.

The Kenwood KDC-HD942U. HD bulit in, 3 band eq, time alignment. This display looks too dim. This one is in the 200.00 range.

My last two head units were Alpines. These were nice decks. Good sound quality and reliable. The new Alpines are nice but only two eq bands.

 

Hey man where did you end up getting that Alpine 9884 from? I'm looking to buy the same HU. I tried Crutcfield but apparently it's discontinued?
