8" Windows Car PC Install
I finally re-did my CarPC setup in my Evo. I had a CarPC for quite a few years, but it was with a motorized in dash touchscreen that never worked as well as I would have liked and an old underpowered M10000 MB.
I used the 8" touchscreen in this thread as well as upgraded everything else. I'm now running a Zotac 9300 MB, with a Core2 Duo (E7500 I think - forgot already), with a OCZ Vertex SSD, etc, etc. It's housed in a mini itx case with an M4-ATX intelligent power supply...so that the computer turns on with the car and gracefully shuts down after ignition is turned off. I also have a PS3 controller and the PS3 keyboard shown on the first page. Works well.
The front end I use is RideRunner (formerly known as RoadRunner) and the skin is Digital FX 4.0 for Ride...highly recommended front end and skin. The skin is very nice and RideRunner is very configurable to do what you want.
So far, I have buttons for my HD Radio, music (mp3s), games (emulators), GPS, EvoScan, Evo LiveMap, Mobilephone over Bluetooth and a few others. The DigitalFX skin has so many buttons and screen already setup there are literally tons of different screens/options like weather, traffic, movie theaters, etc, etc. Very nice. You can check out the skin in this thread here, but I think it's up to 265 pages now over like 8 years.
If I had a good camera, I would post up a video, but all I have is my crappy phone. If I ever buy an HD camera (Kodak has a nice cheap one out now), I will post up some vids.
I'd just like to thank the person for starting this thread to finally get me to upgrade my CarPC. I'm finally happy I have it running how I want it. And the 8" fixed screen fits perfectly in the japanparts.com bezel and looks 100% better now.

Sounds like a great result, Eric. I have the japanparts.com bezel on order, and plan to do the same sort of thing. How did you go about mounting the screen in the dash? Is it attached to the bezel or anchored inside? Did you have to disassemble the screen? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Shaun

The VoomPC case im looking at has only 2 RCA outputs, But the factory SSL system has 4 RCA plugs, what do you do with the other two, Also does the FADER and Balance work normally and does the sub in the trunk work fine? sorry for the noob quesstions
^ u can use a 3.5mm stereo to rca cable and add extra 2 outputs for stock ssl system.. which ever mb you buy for ur setup u need to configure it to 4 ch (quadraphonic setup with) [ speaker fill option checked on]
