anyone upgrade from 35w to 55w hid ballast?

as the title says...has anyone upgraded their evo's factory hid ballasts from 35w to 55w?

i have the reason to believe that my driverside ballast is malfunctioning and also want to know if upgrading to 55w ballasts/bulbs will mess up my headlights?

im going to be ordering the kit from DDMtuning and theres only a $10 difference between the two...

id be going with the 6000k 55w D2S kit...

Yes. It's a great upgrade. Spend the extra on the DDM kit rather than the raptor.

They run hotter, but i've had no problems thus far. Riding in a car with 35w HIDs after owning 55w makes then seem like halogens.

6000k is what i went with. The color is identical to a friends 5000k 35watt DDM kit.

Someone got a link for the DDM kit? I think a nice self given xmas gift would be a set of 55watt highs and maybe some fogs.

Pretty sure that was obvious about the ballasts.

I would think you'd be OK with the higher wattage ones. I'd still be worried about them melting the housings but if you've ever looked in there real good, Ive noticed they dont actually seal up against the housing so it does have some space to disperse the heat.

You will NOT melt the housing. Been running 55watt for some time now

Removed the factory ballast, covered hole with ductape. Placted DDM on top and secured it with some more tape

I had the 55w in my g35. Had 6k in low beams (looked like stock color) and 3k in the fogs/high beam... had them for over a year not one issue besides blinding people because the 05 g35 didnt come with projector... Def going to order them for the evo

id def be worried about the housing melting but i cant say as far as an evo housing goes. im going with aftermarket hid's soon and will be mounting in the factory location perhaps with candle wax or tape to ensure the ballast done get water inside. a buddy of mine has gone through 4+ kits due to water and still wont listen

Anybody hear about 55w kits being illegal? I thought I read somewhere that certain states only allow 35w kits in order to prevent blinding on-coming traffic.

It's not going to blind anyone anymore than a 35w kit if properly adjusted.
