I'd recommend getting those sub boxes that are made specifically to fit in the corner of the Evo's trunk, such as the one in the link above.

I have a single 12" sub in a ported box in my trunk and it takes up a good amount of room, I would say it takes up about 40 percent of my trunk. If you don't want to take up much trunk space, you'll probably need a custom box.

Remounted the SSL sub box to accommodate a rear strut bar...works great!

I would love to get this one for my car, if only it wasn't so damn expensive. Are there any other options out there that anyone knows about?

I got my box in Olympia from Audio Northwest, They relocated their shop now. The box isn't anything custom, just a ported 12" enclosure.

Also look at shallow mount subs like the TW5 from JL audio. Only 2.5 inches mounting depth and only needs a .6 cubic feet sealed enclosure. Did I mention its a 13 inch woofer as well? I have mine in a thin slanted box behind the rear seat. I modified the seat to make it a "pass through" behind the center arm rest and removed the cheap plastic cover behind the seat. Fires straight into the passenger compartment, sounds good, hits hard and takes up little space. You can easily make the box out of 3/4 inch mdf.
