keeping my evo safe?

This is my first post to this site. I am a new mitsubishi owner coming from the honda game. Anyways my evo is my daily driver and unfortunatly I have to park it outside for the time being till I get the money to store it in a garage and buy a beater. Well, im sad to say my evo got keyed last week... all the way around. It ended up being $1,800 in damage. To make a long story short I want to protect it the best I can with the situation I am in right now. What are my options? I know I can get an alarm installed but if so what kind. Thanks for your input.

Welcome and sorry to hear about your misfortune. I too have had some haters screw with my Evo. I however don't park outside very often so I haven't put in an alarm. YET! Good luck.

I have an alarm on my Evo and I had my carbon fiber trunk keys a couple months back. An alarm can only do so much. Just try to get the Evo parked close to you and in a well lighted area. Also I would hold off on getting the keyed parts of the car repainted until you are able to park it in a garage, last thing you want is to have it fixed to be keyed again. An alarm would be good to deter most thieves and as for alarms, there are a few topics floating around the forums about which alarm to pick, a quick search will help you pick out an alarm.

Yeah I try to park in a well lit area as much as possible. I already have the car in the shop cuz where I live there is snow and the people who keyed my car got down to the bare metal. The last thing I wanted was rust forming... I just want something that will deter them if they start to key it. Are some systems sensetive to where if someone touches your car it will go off?

You could set the sensitivity of an alarm to be very low, but at that point, hard rain, gusts of wind, cars passing by, even the poo from a bird above landing on your car will be enough to set off your alarm.

The best idea I can come up with, is to have an alarm installed with multiple shock sensors. What I mean by that is like, have a shock sensor on each door of the car, even the fenders and rear quarter panels if you want, and have them set at a reasonable sensitivity which will set off the warning chirps, which would hopefully scare the person away or at least think twice about what they're doing. And I would recommend the alarm to be a 2 way alarm so when the warning chirp goes off, you can run outside and see what's going on.

There are a good amount of alarm systems out there. I'd go to a local audio shop and talk to them about it, but don't let them convince you into buying the alarm the first time you go in there.

I've installed alarms before, but never hooked up multiple shock sensors. I have an idea of how to hook it up, but I'd have to test it out first and I'm unable to do that for the time being.

go with a viper 5901 mile paging 2 way lcd read out two remotes. $230 (ebay)
Add a
Dei motion sensor
Back up battery
Glass break sensor

The motion sensor you can set to where if someone comes so close it will beep at them... it helps to notify you but can sometimes false alert you and becomes annoying. Thats about all you can do unfortunately other than install motion detection cameras outside of where you live that record to a dvr.

Yeah I was looking into installing cameras where I live. Ima prolly make a stop up to a close audio shop. How much do you think I'm looking at to get the system installed? That sounds like a great system! Is the batter back up and other components you listed expensive?

First off, if you park out side, don't bother buying a proxmity sensor, they are designed for convertables, jeeps, etc.... where someone sticking their hand "inside" and open vehicle will set off the alarm. If you set it so sensitive that someone walking completely around the vehicle will set it off, it will go off all the time. You'll get tired of checking and so will your neighbors. Secondly the guy who sugested multiple shock sensors, don't bother with that. To add a sensor to each panel would cost a fortune and still be pointless to someone keying your car. Plus it would go off all the time set that sensative. It is an Impact sensor, and it will almost never detect a key scratching your car.

I install alarms everyday and you're not the first person with this problem. All you can really do is buy a good alarm, Viper is the best in my opinion. With a bright flashing light coming from with car will deter most thugs to move on to something else with less risk of getting caught. Also, don't **** people off while driving your car. Most people get their car keyed by people who they know or by someone they pissed off on the road. If you have questions on alarms feel free to PM me. I've been installing Viper for 10 years and stand behind their product.

Hmm ok. Yeah the only thing that I'm trying to figure out is what I did to someone to want to do that to my car. Well anyways what kinda price am I in the ball park for a decet system that will somewhat deter people? Installation?

Large caliber handguns can deter people quite well, but in advance of that- a proximity alarm is a great idea.
