I honestly have no clue man. My glove box rattles, side panels, console, front dash... I love my girlfriends comments.. "What's that creaking noise!?"

I was thinking about taking apart the glovebox and putting rubber stoppers in there.

Do you know where the noise/rattling is coming from? You could kill a lot of it, if you isolate the source. If it's ratting metal that's being exited by the low-frequency energy produced by the exhaust, deadening will help. Perhaps quite a bit. If the interior panels are vibrating/buzzing, deadening can help, as can closed cell foam, depending on the issue.

You know, my glovebox developed a rattle last summer. Drove me up a wall. As I rarely have anyone in the car with me, it took me a few weeks to pinpoint the problem. After eliminating a number of possibilities, I finally held my hand against the glovebox, pressing slightly, and the rattle went away.

Best I can tell, the latch mechanism gave way just a hair, enough to allow the glovebox to move and cause a rattle. I took some MLV and Butyl rope, two pieces ~.5"x.5", attached them to the area where the rubber stops on the glovebox meet the dash. Presto! No more rattle and the fix is almost invisible. No one would know it's not factory.

Find the rattles, post back and we'll see if we can fix them.

good job man. I did this to my EVO 8, i covered everything from the gas petal to the back of the back seat on the floor. I also covered all four doors with a layer on the door skin and behind the door panel. I found that it helped a lot with road noise.

Wait a minute. I've read this whole topic. FJF, are you saying Dynamat Xtreme is a good replacement for MLV? Or was that a joke? And would you still need CLD tiles?

No deadening is a replacement for MLV; they do different things. As far as deadenings go, Dynamat Xtreme is very good, as opposed to stuff like Fatmat.

Very thorough, I bet it is as quiet as can be in there.

Looks time consuming, but well done!
I will probably go with the strategic placement route and add some MLV.

Thank you, learned a lot.

Learned a lot from the link as well....However, this is still effective. Don't get me wrong, may not be the correct/best/etc way. I too have done this, I'll post up pics another time. Very effective both times I've ever done it, sound and cost...but then again I used to stock pile this stuff a while back doing audio jobs for people so for me it was free.

So I am looking to reduce noice that only comes from the speakers, be it subwoofer in the trunk or door plastic rattling (at least when I push the front speaker grill in towards the speaker it seems to lessen/stop the sound). Because my sound is speaker related, do I just want to use Dynamat extreme that helps eliminate the resonant frequencies?

Is Dynamate intended for plastic like the door trim or should I just be using felt to try to keep it from rattling? Perhaps that is the real question, if it is just plastic rattling (in trim pieces) what can I do? Thanks! I find that amazon has a bulk pack of dynamat xtreme for a reasonable price and I have been holding off until I am sure.
