Please Give me Advice On Stereo

So I have a 06 Evo 9 MR and the stereo system sucks ****.....

If I was to change out the deck into something like a DVD stereo system will it make it significantly better?

I dont want to change out speakers or add amps. Not looking to spend a ton of money on this either because I am more into performance, but I just want it to sound better.

Stock CD player looks like it was made in the 80's....

Just changing the head unit may not help your sound much if you have a factory amp that you will still be using. I am not familiar with the evo 9s but I would guess that if they have a factory amp, you will be able to find it under the driver's seat. Start by finding out if you have a factory amp or not.

I dont think the MR has a amp. If it did, it wouldnt suck so much.

This is as bad as my dad's 2000 corolla, but his car cost $12k brand new.
I would be happy if it was as good as a camry.

my evo has an amazing stock sound just as good as my moms stock bose system in her car. i was very happy with it none of my other cars sounded as good and ppl that have ridden in my car think i have a sub, but i dont. but my evo is an 03' so they might have been doing things different back then.
oh u might want to check and see if all 6 speakers are working or if the amp has failed or somethig

Depends on what you think is "good" sound. I didn't get a satisfactory sound out of my Evo stereo setup until I was running an Alpine amp, sub, & speakers, upgraded Irragi alternator, yellow-top Optima, and a Kenwood Excelon DNX-9140 satnav.

If you can keep your "upgrade" under $500 bucks . . . consider yourself lucky!

well now i have a deck but still the stock speakers but i actualy think it was better with the oem deck I only added the deck so i could put a sub in but only cuz i like hevy bass sometimes
U could just do somethin like me get a deck and sub and use ur stock speakers as mid-highs and get most of the bass from the sub but really i think my stock setup was way above ave for a lil japanese car from 03' really mine sounds great if i didnt want to bump i would have just left it 100% stock like i said it was just as good as my moms 08' with the bose speakers and ppl thought i already had a sub when it was 100% stock
so check to see if everythings workin

IMO, if you spend a considerable amount of time in the car, don't cheap-out on audio equipment. The stock tweets are ridiculously ghey, they are like paper or foam. Amp it, sub it, get some new fronts, and enjoy. Double-din nav on top of that and you will be happy!

If you want some ideas then I would highly suggest alpine type r components for front and rear(around 200$) eclipse sw8212 750w rms(150$) kicker 750.1(150$) 2 gauge amp kit(50) and an alpine Ida-x305 (200) and you will be set for under 1k. That's exactly what I have and the sub pounds and hit lows really low and I put the tweets in the front doors and in the c panels in the back and it SCREAMS..everyone gives me props on my system.

Hey man, I don't know much about the evo systems themselves, but car audio is my forte. The Evo 9 MR has an optional Rockford Fosgate sound system. If you bought it used from someone, you should try to find out if it has an RF amp/sub whatever. Easiest way to do this is to look in the trunk, lol. No sub, then you got yourself a factory crap stereo. Moving on, the easiest way to get a better system is the basics. HU (head unit) with atleast 50x4 watts, and coaxial speakers (the ones with tweeters on the speakers) an aftermarket amp and a subwoofer. This can easily be achieved for around $1000. If you want to lower the cost, you can DIY the install and I can walk you through it. I am very partial to MTX's comp series of everything, but you will get a good idea from this. Here is a good example of a low cost install that will sound great. The speakers are not MTX's top of the liine stuff, but they still sound great!

1) Sony CDX-GT340 HU, has everything you could ask for minus DVD/NAV = $95.00
2) MTX TDX6502 6.5" 2 way coaxial speakers = $100.00
3) MTX TX-6 (6.5") Component speakers w/ crossovers and 1" dome tweeters = $120.00
4) MTX 704X 4-channel amp = $150
5) MTX TS5510 - 10" Square Sub = $250.00
6) MTX 1000XD Mono Amp = $250.00
7) Kicker Installation Kit = $90
8) Distribution Block = $20.00

This would give you everything you could want in a system. Hope this gives you some insight and by the way, you have a PM.
