My Install Adventures

So I'm at the point where I need to dress up the wiring a little to make everything look nice, and I thought I'd share my experience. Here is what I installed:

Zed Leviathan Amp
Focal 165A1 Components
JL 12W3v3 Sub
Perfect Fit Sub Enclosure
JVC KD-AVX77 HU

I first relocated the stock gauges for the MR into the upper radio slot, and installed the HU in the lower slot, wired up for stock speakers while I waited for time to install the rest.

I already had the Amp power line ran to the trunk from an earlier install, and it was perfect for the new amp. I only had to run the RCAs for the front speakers, and the speaker wire. Mounted the Amp to a 1/2" MDF board in the trunk, behind the back seat. That was a chore to do alone, that amp is heavy!

Installed the mids in the stock location, which needed speaker adapters. The tweeters on the other hand were installed in the door panel just in front of the door handle. I had to drill holes to fit them, good thing I'm keeping this car until the tires fall off!

I then installed the PF enclosure on the drivers side of the trunk, where it fit like a glove! Inserted the SW and tightened everything down.

Once everything was wired up, I turned the HU on and....NOTHING! I got out the trusty multimeter and found no power to the Amp. Checked the fuse and it was OK. Did another multimeter check and voltage was good. The only thing I did was remove the fuse and put it back in...

Everything came up without a problem except...I had a nasty alternator whine in my speakers. I ensured that I had a good ground, and unplugged the RCA cables one at a time. The whine went away when I unplugged one RCA from the Amp. Thought I might have to install a ground loop isolator. Finally realized that I ran one set of RCAs on the same side as my positive wire for the Amp. Once I relocated it, the speakers were clear as a bell. I still need to set my gains better, and dress up the wiring. Once that is complete, I hope to upload some pictures.

Thanks for taking the time to read about my adventure, and I thank all those that have posted on this thread, as I have used your knowledge and ideas!

The stock speakers are oversized 6.5". You can get 6-6.5" adapters on ebay. HTH
