I have had good luck with viper alarms.

I have the 5701 on the wife's ride with remote start, but nothing on the evo yet.

I really liked the compustar I had in my cobra. It was a pretty nice alarm. I want to say it was a 2W900FM-AS .

I was mostly vouching for the brand as the op didn't want to spend $300.

I'm not sure how much you can get the 5901 for but I was thinking it was more than this.

Autopage rs 1100 hands down. Over a mile range. Badass oled 2 way remote. All the features of top alarms. Good price. Here's a video I made of the remote after I installed it.

I have a viper 5901 with the iphone smart start. I put the Autopage RS-1100 on the wifes celica.

I like the Rs-1100 better! :| Lol, but I do like the notifications directly to my cell phone if anyone is messing with it..

and ill just order the 5902 color lcd remote to add to it

viper 5901 on amazon is $214 and for $259 u can get alarm battery back up and audio sensor
viper 5902 on amazon is $330 and with the same set up as the 5901 it'll be $380 i think.

I my self just orderd the 5901 is just as good as the 5902. Now comes the hard part and thats
finding a good shop to install it i have a prestige on my evo now that i got like 2 months ago which
i hate so now i have to remove it completely to install the viper.

viper 5901. Although on a busy streets, I tended to have lots of false alarms from big trucks, loud subs or exhausts. Now i don't park on a busy streets and I almost never have false alarms anymore. It might be my add-ons that were faulty, but this alarm is very nice.

Any alarm will be fine.. as long as the thieves know you have one it will be another deterrent for them to steal from your car; although good thieves can bypass alarms. The main reasons why i got the 5901 was for the 2way remote with 1 mile radius.

Also.. its never going to be the stated 1 mile, its more like a strong .5 mile at best in normal areas. It's only is 1 mile when in the desert with nothing around. so 1/4 mile radius will be less than 1/4 mile.. KEEP THAT IN MIND
