Horn doesn't work, not the fuse.

I just bought my Evo IX a few weeks ago. Been slowly going through and fixing minor things.

I finally got the BOV cleaned out so it actually works without compressor surge now... so on to less important issues.

My Horn doesn't work. The fuse in that spot *was* blown but after replacing it with the same size fuse it still doesn't work.

Previous owner had some wolo horn installed but cut the damn cables to it. It's not hooked up but frankly I don't want an electric juke box horn anyway, I want the stock horn!

What else do I check after looking at the fuse? I can't even find the horn under the hood and I'm wondering if it's even there. All the threads here are about blown fuses or aftermarket horns.

Appreciate any help.

I think I remember seeing it from the lower driver duct in the bumper near the ACD pump. I would check that for cut wires fo sho!

P.S. Thank you for saving this evo from an owner who had a electric juke box horn.

This is the first I've eve heard of a wolo horn, so I ran a quick search. Please don't misunderstand when I say that I'm sitting here laughing so hard I'm in tears. Here's the picture in my mind. A serious automotive enthusast goes to buy an Evo. Folks don't usually lean on the horn during the test drive, and it's easy to see how something like this could be missed. Then, one day, the new owner is on the road, hits the horn...and...gets the sound of a wild turkey mating call at 110dB.

I don't know if this helps, but I'd check the continuity between the wires leading into the steering wheels with the horn wires in front of the car. You probably know that we have 2 horns. I can post a pic if it helps. Once you find the source of the issue, it's not a bad idea to upgrade (one or both of) the stock horn(s) solely for the sake of safety. FWIW, I used a Hella truck horn, replacing one of the stock horns, leaving the other intact.

Post the pic if you don't mind. I love the mental picture you drew there .

Really appreciate all the help I've received here in the past few days. Getting this car corrected and up to snuff is proving more work than I thought.

Get this, the previous owner installed Trustz gauges but never wired them up. He cut off the end of the inverter to the gauges but didn't actually take it. I drove the car during the day and never noticed. Got the car home and had no backlights. Luckily you guys told me what I had and who to contact for wiring info.

The BOV was seized up completely, I had to use a big hammer, then finally a *bigger* hammer to free the piston from the housing. Brett at GFB sent me info on how to clean it and disassemble it. Works like a charm now, like new.

Found two Tee connections in the vacuum hose to hook up not only a boost gauge, but a Vac gauge too! (even though the boost gauge has vac). One was off the fuel regulator vacuum line none the less! Thank god it's such low miles and I can still save it from the previous owner.

I removed the wing and finally have this thing somewhere close to how I want it now.... I am missing the horn however since I use it daily.

Here are some shots of the engine bay. Ignore the trucks in the background, our block gets new water lines. Yay, Not. They start bright and early at 7am smashing the ground with Cat tractors 20 ft from my window.

Appreciate it. You guys rock!

If you look just to the right of the core support for the FMIC, you can see one of the stock horns peeking out. The other horn is on the lower right, replaced by a Hella in the pic.

The stock horn next to the Hella.

RE: the video - underhood looks impressively clean. You really did a great job. I help out on the detailing forum quite a bit. Believe me when I say that many folks could learn from your example.

It's a shame to hear about the issues you've come across. Unfortunately, it's very common. If you stick around the forum for a bit and see who buys these cars, what folks do to them and how they're treated, more will make sense. On the very bright side, it seems like you got a solid car and most of its issues are being taken care of.

Thank you for the complement! I plan to take a second video now that I've corrected these problems since that one shows the nasty T connections where they don't belong. I also pulled the ram air thing since it just looked tacky even if it provided a little cooler air.... it's near freezing outside so I doubt it will matter.

I guess now I'll start tracing the horn wires and hopefully nothing was cut. I ordered a new keyless remote since none came with the car and I'll probably program that first. Hopefully the method posted here works (ground pin 1, hazzard 6 times within 10 seconds, doors lock/unlock, hit remote lock button twice).

Your engine bay looks very clean!

Before you go checking the wires, just unplug the horn, and connect your DMM to the harness side of the plug, and have someone press the horn button to see if you're getting power.

I looked at it the other day and was not able to find the harness wire near the horn. I didn't have time to take it apart all the way but it didn't appear to be in there.

It's been too cold to do much of anything the past few days.
