I have the Compustar (2W900FMR) w/remote start on my IX. In order to activate the "reserve mode" before you turn off the car, you must:

1. ensure the car is in neutral (doors & hood closed)
2. pull back the handbrake (wait until you hear the alarm makes a "click" sound)
3. press the foot brake (don't hold it down) and wait until the alarm makes another "click" sound...wait 3 seconds and it will make ANOTHER "click" sound.
4. remove the key, get out, close the door (alarm will then activate).
5. press and hold the II button until the car fires up.

When I came back from my overseas tour, something happened with the remote-start function and it would arm...but wouldn't actually fire up. I guess when my old-man replaced the battery (had it on a battery tenderer for a while too) something went wonky.

I took it to a Best Buy and had them look it over...the guy said some BS about needing a new control module flux-capacitor jibber-jabber.

I then took it to the nearest authorized Compustar retailer (found it from the Compustar site), he hooked it up to their laptop w/official software from Compustar...reset it (5 minutes) and now it works fine.

maybe it just needs a reset.. i already tried reprogramming the remote.. it worked for a little bit, but now its all finkity and sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't.. the p/o did mention that he had removed the battery when he stuck it in storage.

luckily theres a place down the street from me that installs compustar, i'll take it to them when i finally get a day off.

im just REALLY picky who i let work on my car, becuase its stock and in mint condition.

How far does your alarm go before the remote start fails?
Does it at least arm (a.k.a. go into reserve mode)? Does it make the clicking sounds when you arm it? Is it doing everything but not actually starting?

On mine...after I armed it, I would hold the II button and the alarm would beep once (as it aways does before starting remotely) but the car wouldn't start. Then the key-fob wouldn't do anything...until I held the II button down again and it would re-beep (the key-fob) and work normally.

i was able to go in reserve mode, but now i am not. (could hear the clicks, but now i cannot)

when i press II, the car seems like it wants to start. the lights flash and it goes beep beep on my remote, but nothing ever happens. then eventually get an error.

Yea, sounds like you have the same problem mine was having. When I took it to the authorized installer/dealer...they simply disconnected the cable from the little antennae box on the windshield, plugged it into his laptop, and 5 minutes later it worked.

Just $20 that the shop itself charges for labor...he had already warned me that however long it took to solve the problem, there would be a $20 minimum.

But eff-it...my remote-start works again. I told myself I needed it to have the car nice & warm on snowy days...or nice & cool on hot days but I remote-start it all the damn time for no reason, I love it. Even if I'm 30 feet away and already walking torwards the car.

Hell, I might even remote-start it while already sitting IN the car...just because I CAN. (jk)
